After reading here and on the VN board about some of the great items you can get in the Buccaneer Chest, I got some sling stones and a ring of protection. On IronMan, of course! I was prepared to be disappointed, but not that disappointed!

Man, thats gotta make you explode. Now I'm gonna have some second thoughts about playing Ironman...

Never found anything wonderful in the Bucc chest myself, though I never bothered with reloading. The Buccs might drop a light sword once a millenia, though, and the Bayjin chest and Nessie's stash have been known to hold good stuff. But you often have to reload to get anything worthwhile. If you want to play Ironman, you pretty much have to be very lucky with those items.

Oh, I know there's only a very slim chance of getting something great from the chest, but not only had I built myself up to think I *might* get something great, I recalled at least getting a bunch of treasure to sell off & appease my disappointment. So, when I got only 2 items, I really felt like W8 was out to get me!

But, once I got to the ****SPOILER****

fight w/ Nessie, I had to think about it. I got lucky pretty early on and found the Sword of 4 Winds in the cave at the bottom of the off-limits area in the Umpani caves. So4W was my favorite sword in W7, not, I guess, because it was the best, but because it was a really good sword you could get fairly early on.

Anyway, Boromir has given up sword and shield for it, and regularly does 100+ dmg twice per attack. When we got to Nessie, it was great. Gimli got swallowed the 2nd round, which seemed like something that would happen in the LoTR films. Boromir did 90+ dmg with every strike, which really knocked Nessie down fast, and Frodo got the kill with a Thieves' Dagger strike of like 24 pts.

So, I have to admit that this has been an extremely fun game. I would have you note that I am playing on Coward, I mean Novice, so that probably has something to do with my lucky finds and good dmg in combat.

I'm still not ready to do an Expert IronMan game, Expert, yes, but I put too much of my free time and emotional care into my games. I marvel at the folks who can play Expert IronMan, get killed, and say, "Eh, that's my luck, time to start over."
