Yeah, he'll still be able to pick locks, but won't be able to advance the skill any more.

And he'll loose his 25% skill bonus.

I might switch to take advantage of armor, but for the giant sword I don't think it's worth what you lose.

i'd agree with solomon on this one, although it may depend on what skills you've already developed. in particular, if you've been dual wielding daggers or sword/dagger as a rogue, you'll be giving up quite a bit of expertise for a big slow sword.

now if you were switching for excalibur... maybe...

If you've got Knock-Knock and Divine Trap in your party, L&T doesn't need to be higher than 50 (without bonus) as long as you also keep the Poseur's Cap and get a Thieve's Buckler. You can get to 50 easily by inspecting a chest over and over, saving every once in a while so you don't have to repeat too much when it trips. If you have the sound effects on, you can tell without looking that it's time to click again, so if your mouse doesn't move you can do this while enjoying some other visual stimulation (i read).

You're right Sultan. You can do it that way and get by just fine, although I can't get behind training skills outside the ordinary course of the game. I guess it comes down to how you role-play it.

I've always had the feeling that my rogues are pretty comfortable in their own skins and aren't all that interested in magic tricks when it comes to doing what they do best -- open the box and take the best stuff for themselves!

I trained the rogue in sword and dagger. He has run around
most of the game with Bloodlust and a thiefs dagger. It is working
out so far. just waxxed nessie with no deaths. This was suppose to
be a weak party! (see Bad party 2 thread)

Doesn't sound like you need to change much to me. If you do though, let us know how it works out.

right on, rb! another fine example of pushing the supposed limits of the game (and yourself) and discovering something new and interesting.

i'm with you on training solomon, but i think it's a personal decision as to where one draws that line. for example, i'll spend considerable time camping and mixing just before i leave arnika for the first time. to me, that's a feature to take advantage of - others would call it an exploit to each his own.

i also agree that rogues are great at being rogues and every party can use one (although i can understand that you might not always want to choose one). but still, once you've got them, it's hard to rationalise switching... once i dual classed a rogue over to samurai around level 11. it was a disaster!
