Finally my non-magic party reached Nessie last night. I saved there and will kill her tomorrow.
I never thought that it would be such a problem to earn money without an alchemist. Because I need many scolls and stamina potions and also canned elementals and bombs I often had to stay in an area with monsters that bring more money than "normal" ones.
Another problem is ammunition. "Feeding" 8 characters mith missiles can be a full time job. ( In my "magic" days I was bored to find those bullet stones but
fortunatly you can't hear my cry of joy when I find them now .
I first thought I could make it without NPC's but after reaching the Swamp to clear the entrance of the tunnel to Bayjin this Empath and his minions made my whole party insane and I quickly turned and hired Saxx with his instrument ( Soul Shield made it easier ).I hired RFS-81 too.
Another thing I find horrible is the miss of Set Portal. O.K. with the T'Rang teleporter you can reach some areas but to reach Fuzzfas ( one of the most important salesmen to me ) you have to run and run and .... !
It took me a lot of time to reach this point without being destroyed ( it sometimes was very close )and I really hope that my party also survives the rest of the game.

Nessie can be totally harmless if you have enough ammo.

If you come from Beygin, just stop at the end of the tunnel and initiate combat, then move so Nessie appears in the corner of the tunnel floor, just enough of her to target once you swap weapons. Takes a few hundred Mystics or Lightning Bolts, but if you're in the right place, all she does is defend and keep her Soul Shield and Stoneskin up.

Good idea Scatter,

but where can I get hundreds of Mystic Arrows or Lightning Bolts ?
I havn't visited the Rapax Area by now and I'm happy to have Hunter Quarrels and Fear Bolts or Barbed and Shrike Arrows.

Greetings

well done loudhy! the stories of extreme parties are both exciting and educational, keep us posted!

you must have strong melee, so dont be afraid to sneak up on her, close the first round, then bash for your lives. even my balanced parties do that (the bishop/bard just have to wait a round to contribute buffs), so i would assume a solid melee party would have no problems.

you may have posted it elsewhere, but could you remind me what race/classes you are running?

The first time I made it to Nessie, it was pretty bad. My mage had gone for fire spells and those don't work underwater, o literally for the underwater period of time I had a non-magic party. The trouble was if I waited in the first turn to get the buffs up, then Nessie would body of stone herself, making the fight much harder, and if I ran in I got an earthquake which wiped out nearly my whole party. But then eventually I got lucky, ran in, next turn got up the buffs and the killed her in melee. Although the priest did get digested.

Hi Sultan,

my party is :

Dracon Fighter ( Dragon Breath was very useful at the beginning )
Fairie Thief ( maybe not the most logic choice but I like Fairies )
Human Gadgeteer ( that's me quick with healing and attack )
Mook Gadgeteer ( slow , I want to switch him to Fighter at Lvl 20 )
Felpurr Bard ( quick : for protection and offensive instruments)
Gnome Bard ( slow : for a possible healing after a round )

NPC's

Saxx ( most of the time unconscious or moaning because I drag him into all areas )
RFS-81 ( nothing to say about )

wow, loudhy, i wouldnt even know where to begin running a party like that. double gadg, triple bard, faerie rogue. how does it work? i mean, who does what, how do combats go?

although it's a non-magic party, the 5 gadg/bards can offer quite a bit of magical punch. is that how they're used?

i dont know if you're aware, or perhaps against such things, but there is a bug that allows you to steal saxx's sax.

Although it is an non-magic caster party I would'nt consider it a non-magic party.
The gadgeteers and bards can tear down great masses quite fast with the right instruments and gadgets.

edit: wow sultan! we do reply at the same times. BTW how do you get his saxx, one of the buffs my current party is missing

hey, dplax, gmta!

regarding the sax, it's a bit of a spoiler, so i will refer you to gimli's post where i first read it. obviously, killing the npc will get you the item, but this way is gentler:

there's a second post with it in more detail, and some discussion
