Spoiler for those who do not have Tribunal

I installed Tribunal at the same time I installed Morrowind because I heard that it straightened out the Journal nightmare. I also knew about the assassins that would come on occassion to kill you (if you don't have Tribunal installed this doesn't happen). Anyway, at first they only sent individual ones and I managed most times to kill them. Now, however, they are sending them in twos wielding those swords that both poison and paralyze. It doesn't take long for your character to die. The only time I managed to kill a double assassin team was the time I slept in the Fighter's Guild in Balmora. In the middle of my rest they attacked, but the game placed them between the double bunk beds! Their heads were in the top mattress and their legs in the bottom mattress! LOL! At this point I said, "Screw the purity of game play. I'm sick of dieing by their methods. I'm gonna' kill 'em." They were tough. I hacked and hacked and the damage I inflicted was unreal. So I stripped them along with those nasty blades and I went back to rest when it happened again! The same results as before.

So my question is, Do the assassination attempts ever stop, i.e., a certain amount of set attempts, or does this go on and on until you decide to play Tribunal? Thanks.

IIRC the attacks go on for a certain number of nights, then they give up.

I thought the attacks kept coming until you take out their leader, not sure though. The first thing i did as soon as i arrived in Mournhold was just that. I have no more trouble sleeping now.

Everything I read said what B_part wrote, but that has not been my experience. It has been many nights of being toasted. I am far from completing the Fighter's Guild quests, I've put the main quest on hold. If I decide to do what johnny did to stop this problem, how does one go about accessing Mournhold? I know I need to go to Ebonheart. Thanks.

I found as soon as I got to Mournhold the attacks stopped (actually I was only attacked twice altogether). To get to mournhold, first talk to a guard (eg a Hlaalu guard in Balmora, Redoran guard in Ald'ruhn etc) about the attacks, and they'll tell you to go to Ebonheart. Then go to the bridge between the castle and the legion garrison and you'll find a guy wandering around who you can talk to about Mournhold. He'll tell you about the chick just inside the castle who can transport you there. Hope my directions made sense

Thanks for the advice on going to Mournhold. Looks like I am headed for another detour. (Then again, the game seems like one long, multi-faceted detour!)

True. Sometimes estabilishing the priority of your actions is really difficult.

If you still want to know, there are actually 14 attacks total before they stop. I figured this out with the aid of my level 32 character.

My manual (europe) states that: the attacks, depending on your char level, will cease after a maximum of nine attacks have been made.
