Any tips for my groups would be great:

Human Lord, Lizardman Fighter(not dracon), Gnome Priest, Faerie Mage, Human Bard, and Elf Bishop.

Next:
I am at the lower monastary with 2 issues: The bridge with second level need a key - I can't find it. There is a room that has a lock box that requires a key(titled: For emergency use only).

Thanks for the help ahead of time!!!!

The locked door in the Monastary can't be opened until you get the key from Arnika - give Braffit a letter and he'll explain more...

The safe gets opened using a key found in the room with the statue holding a skull in its hand. You need to use your hand to look at a specific part of the statue - but be careful of a trap door. You will know when you found the right spot, as the wall will open up and reveal the key.

Your party sounds good. I tried a lizardman fighter and while his hits were great, he often missed a lot. Depending how you distributed your points in the character creation, you could have a 100 in vitality after a few levels, and then concentrate on strength and dexterity.

The other members sound good. Bards are fun as there are tons of instruments for them to play and they make resting/sleeping go much better. Good luck with the game and be sure to write back when you encounter problems.

How'd you manage to nuker her to death??

I like the party too, you have all your bases covered there.

For the Lizzie, Str/Dex will help him hit the most.

Hi,
Another new Wizardry 8 player here.. Does this game rock or what? Got Caught up in all the infinity engine games in the past year, and never got around to playing this game. It was always on my to do list, as I'm a huge Wizardry fan and I'm finally playing it and loving it Just completed Trynton.

There is a point to my post, in case you are wondering. A bit of constructive criticism, but I'm new as well, so take it with a grain of salt. Your party is a lot more magic heavy than mine, and from what I've heard, offensive magic is not that great in the game. I pretty much depend on my melee guys to slice and dice while the magic guys disable. Also, as my bishop is my primary spellcaster, his magic skills improve a lot because of frequent practice. As he has a lot of skills to distribute points to, I depend on this improvement a lot. Perhaps you might have a problem later because your bishop won't be casting as much as mine and will not improve as much? I guess the veterans here can tell me if I have something or not. I guess it depends on your style of play, but if you are looking for recommendations I'd suggest another melee guy (maybe a samurai, who can also cast spells) in place of a spellcaster (the priest or the bishop).

Well you should always keep up the "buffing" spells, and re-cast them when they expire, that will help pump your magic skills. The damage effects aren't the greatest, but the crowd-control effects, combines with some good melee characters, are very potent (web, insanity, etc). With more than one caster I would just keep layering those types of spells on monsters. Also the priest will be busy healing/buffing.

He has two real melee characters (fighter + lord), and a bard. If he recruits vi or RFS, thats enough melee power IMO.

Offensive magic isn't weak if you have powercast. Well, maybe except ascension peak.
I currently play a party of 5: fighter, mage, priest, alchemist, psionic. No RPCs.
The mage is first in number of kills. Alchemist, fighter and psionic a quite behind (and have about the same number).

Thanks for the advice. It is great. Just yesterday, I discovered the buffs and have been using them. I do have some different ways in which I am using the characters. I am using the Bishop and Mage as my nukers. I use my Bard for "crowd control" by using the flute and for long range attacks. I use the priest to heal/pray/melee. The lord and fighter are all melee.

I am doing things wrong? Will I have trouble later?

Also, when can I expect to get cooler instruments, and items? I am still in lower monastary. I will be going upstairs on Friday.

Is there anything I should watch out for in the upper monastary?

I am not exactly sure how I nuked her to death. In learning the play controls, I may have accidentally casted the spell on her instead of a mob. What I believe happened is that there seems to be a chance of backfire on your spell. My faerie just couldn't take what she was dishing out

Yes, offensive magic is good throughout the game. The more monsters you face, the better it is with damage-magic, that's the rule. The higher level you are, the higher level monsters you will face, and higher level monsters always have good resistance (because of their level mostly). But the more your level increases, the more you can cut through their resistances and the less they can cut through yours.

In my games, I usually go to Ascensions peak around level 20, and that's when I face flying serpents, demons etc, that I can easily kill with concussion, dehydrate, banish, tsuanami, blizzard, earthquake etc. I couldn't effectively kill level 34 scorchers with magic until my casters were around level 30, so the level plays a big role.

And Wereboar, your fighter will take over the number in kills with time. I have seen it every game, unless I go around killing groups of monsters with asphyxiation, nuclear blast etc. for fun. But I agree with your point.
