Hmm...I've just had a look at some screenshots and it doesn't look half bad! So, just three questions, if i may:
1) Is it first-person fully 3d (eg. a la morrowind)? 2) What is the gameplay like? (eg. Diablo vs BG) 3) Should I buy it? I really don't like hack n slash for the sake of it. I got bored with Diablo very quickly, I loved BG1 & 2, and morrowind wasn't far behind. I didn't like NWN much at all, but the expansions are proving more enjoyable. I prefer the outdoors to a permanent dungeon-crawl. Does it sound like something i'd enjoy? Thanks in advance |

1) Yes, it is fully 3D from 1st person perspective.
2) Closer to BG than Diablo. You will need strategy and tactics to survive the day when in a fight. 3) You may very well. Most of the game is spent out of doors with a few dungeon crawls thrown in (Monastery, Rapax Castle, Mt. Gigas, and a couple of others).

There is a depth to WIZ8 that I haven't found in many other games - that's why I keep playing it even after I "won"...
Personalities, mini-quests, development techniques and the dynamics of foe generation. Some of the sub-quests are actually BAD IDEAS, some which you may figure out at once(1), and some that are far less obvious(2) - even some that are not explicit(3). Or even some that are clearly optional(4). And some that are simply confusing(5). For each of the preceeding numbers, a spoiler follows...'gentle' spoilers, but potential spoilers - so I added enough space to allow you to skip or quickly scroll past selectively (I hope). (1) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Rat gives you a note to give Bank Teller, Bad idea, lousy payoff and makes enemies fast (better to just use stolen bank cards). but I always agree to get the free Zip gun, gotta be careful if/were you sell that note though... (2) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . blowing away the Trang ship, or destroying Umpani are both somewhat counter-productive - the dialouges if you can rescue the captured troops that the Rapax King wants questionned are lots of fun, and offer loads of XP. (3) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I consider killing Croc (usually by getting caught shopliting/pickpocketing) a quest (I notice that he very often will drop item we were trying to shoplift, so I like to go for something useful and expensive - but not till I'm ready to go get the Idol, since he DOES have some nice stuff to sell). Or heisting the bank cards...or making sure to deliver the Helazoid flag. (4) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Custom weapons/Armor for the 'always friendly' Rapax armorers (I prefer to wait till I have some 'good' items, and more XP before going to Rapax Castle - better stuff for sale, possible to spend 1000000 Gp on a single purchase !), or what to do with a blue feather if you found one... (5) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . What does one do about a 'Friendly Hogar' anyway ?

(2) Alliance: Probably intended that you don't do the alliance on your first game, so you can find something in further games. IMO a good thing. |

Thank you all for your advice. I'll see how many pennies I can scrape together at the end of the month! Wz8 or Morrowind expansions...decisions decisions

And - what hasn't been mentioned so far - what many consider the most fun: creating different parties, from the full six down to solo. Check out some of the threads on this. There really is a lot to Wiz 8 once you get started.

I've had a lot of fun without any Fighter, Valkerie, or Lord - and selecting personalities is lasting fun. The Wiz 8 world is large enough that I've never really did everything I know that I could because other 'priorities' distract me (and occasional annoyance - got stuff for Ferro's 'Mirror Armor' only to find that it is unusable by everyone in my party, doh! )
The single most imporntant thing I do is frequent saves (with occasional 'checkpointing', or saving to a descriptive file just to be able to start over at that point because of something I learn much, much later...like the sub-quests Wereboar mentions - you never know till you try). If you can't learn from your mistakes, what's the point in making them ? P.S. My Lvl 20 Ninja has Critical hit to 115, Wow ! (and using a Staff which starts with 'Z' [OK, I can't remember what it's called] which causes Hex as well as incredible damage each hit). But next time... (vitality...?)
