Just curious, but I have 3 fighters in my party all of whom are using Sword skill/close combat + Dual Wield. I currently have 2 fighter's using dagger offhand, one with mace. Are there ever any offhand based fighter usable sword weapons? Or do I need to keep pumping up my Dagger/Mace skills to make those offhand weapons connect? Feel free to spoil me on this one, I'd like to know what to do with my points and whether or not sword weapons exist that can be used as a secondary weapon =)

You'll have to go Samurai if you want to dual weild swords (Katana in the main hand and Wak in the offhand). Otherwise it's either mace or dagger for dual weilding.

Yah. Unfortunately, they reclassed the Basilard, which was a sword in W-7. But the best secondary mace is a very good weapon, and you can get 2 for sure. Dagger is ok, but doesn't get quite as good. And there's only one secondary Axe, and it's very mundane.
Your Fighters' Close Combat bonus will help your second weapon some, but if you'r a Lord, once your Dual bonus puts you over 100, you do even better; even more so with two of the same class (eg 2 maces). Another important point--Initiative Bonus is CUMULATIVE. So with (for example) two Sprite's Daggers, you get plus eight initiative to anything you do--including each of the daggers. It's like the way a Cloak of Stealth says AC +3, but you get 5 because the +20 Stealth brings its own AC value. I had to edit because i completely forgot STICKS There are some fairly nice wands (and a Rod, if you're a Faerie), that'll go in either hand, and they have spells you can use in combat, too... yeah there are no good off hand swords, unles su have a samurai.
Best off hand weapons would have to be the nunchaka for ninja/monk, enchanted wakashi for samurai, basilard for fighters, diamond eyes (most fighters) MUCH better or the winterwand/other wand. And yes, a lord with fang or ivory blade and diamond eyes really kicks ass. Vampire chain + diamond eyes possibly even better!

It can be used by them, it heals and it has good damage. BUT: It is an extended weapon, and there is no way to use a non-extended offhand weapon with an extended 1st-hand weapon. And there are of course no extended range offhand weapons. So forget about the Vampire Chain.... |

And the vampire chain only gets 50% of the strength bonus.

And the Vampire chain requires a vampire bat wing, which you can usually get... eventually.
I like the chain for priests and maybe bishops, since they usually only have strength around 50 (if they're lucky), so they wouldn't qualify for any decent strength bonus anyway . The extended reach is useful since it's unlikely that you'd have a priest/bishop in the front lines. Priests would make better use of it, since most of the time you probably should be casting spells with a bishop. |

Lords do better with two DE's or Mauler+DE than with a sword & DE.
Stiletto is nice, not just for the 10% kill, but also for the +6 Initiative. (in fact most dagger types are better than Basilard) |
