Final Fantasy XI
---------------- I think everyone can agree that final fantasy is one of the best RPG's ever made, am i right? How ever Final Fantasy is suposed to be a good ol' single player game, and squaresoft have gone and made it multiplayer, i dont think it will be as good, because that will mean it needs the internet. If youve got a slow inernet connection that means a lot of problems, like lagging out. I think Final Fantasy should stick to single player, what does everyone else think ? |

I think it's gonna be a load of shit.
Think of this, the old final fantasy games have enough well written text to fill a pretty hefty book. Now, a multiplayer Final Fantasy will become like Diablo2(a good game but it has no depth) with a dozen people in a room sayin' "5 hi-pot. @ 3000gil" or "Hi, a/s/l, join parti 2 play a reeley gud game. what u say". Now i'm not insulting the gramatically challenged but they really have no place in a multiplayer rpg NOT a mindless hack'n'slash. Also, if square continue their recent trend of "improving" the series' battle system, or as i call it "making the fights MIND-NUMBINGLY easy", then pretty soon we wont even need to press any buttons at all just dit back and watch the movie... i mean "game" that final fantasy is steadily becoming. *Sigh* I hope square start going back to the quality of the older games.

Final Fantasy XI isn't doing as well as expected in Japan because of server problems. It the sales don't pick up, FFXI probably won't reach Australian waters or even American! IMO Square should keep the FF series single player.

Definately single player only. There are too many online games now. If I wanted to socialize I would go to a chat room. I play to escape from this world. The last thing I want is to have to deal with some keyboard-equiped mendicant. I play Dark Age of Camelot. But, I solo almost exclusively and never venture onto the PvP servers. It's almost like playing single player.

Wellpersonally I think FF2 was the most fun of the entire series, but as far as the best roleplaying game of the series, I really think it reached its peak at 7 and then just went downhill as of there. 8 i think really sucked, 9 i liked, and i honestly haven't played 10 yet, because i don't have the vacation time saved up that that would require. I imagine locking myself in my house for a week, living on nothing, but delivered food, and playing the game from start to finish, sleeping rarely in between. OK well maybe not that extreme, but I bet i would probably be late or miss a day of work because of it. either because i stayed up to late playing it, or I couldn't pull myself away in time in the morning. Either way, just not yet. . . but soon

I completely forgot to reply to the original topic, sorry about that, anyway I completely loathe and abhor the idea of XI being an online multiplay environment, where "certain creatures can only be beat by characters teaming up." I just don't like the idea that my playing time has to coincide with somone else's just to complete the game. I think it will probably ruin the entire series, and if we have any luck they will quit being completely capitalist, and just make pure 1player RPGs from now on, though if they want to do that but include a mutliplayer option, off the main console only, that would be cool too, In otherwords. I will not buy FFXI, though I am a big fan of the series, thus far.
