Heya!
There's a really fast way to increase Earth Realm and Alchemy skill!
There's this Arnika Jail that takes U thru a sub-tunnel to the Bank's Vault. Once you're there, you'll usually take stuff and then teleport out. But U guys overlooked something. Turn around, there's a a heavily bolted door (Full of tumblers). If u have the Knock Knocks spell, go onto it and cast it there.
DO NOT OPEN IT. Once U've cast the spell, click on CANCEL, and then go to sleep/ or keep doing it till your mana runs out. Rest. Then, do it again.
My Ranger, did this for 1 hour, and guess what? His alchemy increased from 35 to 43 and his EARTH REALM from 37 to 53!!! Cool eh?

Anyway,I'd like to remind U not to open the DOOR TO THE VAULT. Cos, even if U open it and then use the teleporter, if U ever enter the Bank again, they'll turn hostile. Maybe because Ur character left his/her handprints there.

Yep, the endless knock spell method Can really unbalance the game though, so I would not do it if you want a challenge. There are other quick "training" methods in Wiz 8, all of them cheesy IMHO

It's an excellent tip, Silv@n, and it works on pretty much any lock as well, especially the high-level ones like that.

Tips for other "quick-training" spell casts: Casting "Armorplate" repeatedly on your party, then resting, will cause a Priest's earth magic to increase. Casting Light repeatedly, then resting, will cause a mage's, priest's, or alchemist's fire magic level to increase. Casting "Enchanted Blade" repeatedly causes a mage's Divine magic level to increase. Same with Identify on items for priest and psionic's mental magic, even if the item has already been ID'd!

Check out all the different "buffing" spells for the various magic realms that can be cast, and use the "repeat casting" method. You'll be delighted to see how quickly magic increases.

Cheers,
-Sazerac

Hmm, if you are inclined to use training methods (and again, I suggest you don't because it makes the game too easy), you can also cast mindread/charm on shopkeepers over and over (and/or use the bard's charm violin);

stick an item that drains HP on someone and heal them over and over;

go to the lower monastery and open the casket (room is near where Gregor was) that sickens/damages you over and over; cast heals and cure lesser condition;

also you can cast hypnotic lure and sonic boom over and over, don't have to be in combat;

and if you're fatigued and not in combat, go into combat and cast stamina, then the skill will go up, otherwise stamina won't raise skills.

Thanx alot Gimli!
I never knew that sonic boom could be cast even when not in combat!

I haven't really tried using my (what-was-it-again?-gadget) bard to cast charm on everyone in the city. Maybe I should try.But then again, U're right. It makes the game too easy. I win combats without a single scratch nowadays!

By the way, my party consists of: Samurai, Fighter, Ranger, Bard, Bishop, and Psionist. I don't have a gadgeteer, so I'm trying my best to train Madras so that he can merge three heavy crossbows. What's the fastest way to train Engineering skill???
I know that using the hypnotic lure helps, but is there a faster way? and btw, do get increases for skills if succesfully merge items(eg. 2 heavy crossbows) over and over again?

I would get into fights and have him use the lightning rod over and over - if you really wanted to speed it along, isolate one monster with alot of HP, have eveyone else just guard - let Madras keep hitting it with the lightning rod, and cast healing spells on it now and then to keep it alive.

Ye gads... that sounds sooooo.... boring.

I'm not a big fan of training either. Its been a problem with a lot of CRPGs in the past that use a skill system. Frankly I wish the computer would punish you for doing that type of thing and lower your character IQ 1 pt for being so obstinate to cast the same spell over and over again.

Not to mention... CRPGs were meant to be fun...

Well as I said, I don't reccomend any of the above methods. And I agree, I like games where this kind of thing can't happen - where basically you get power/skill by completing quests and defeating foes. More along the lines of the AD+D rules.
