Does anybody know where I can find a walkthrough to help with freeing the slaves?

generally, the keys to free the slave is nearby, check some of the named npc nearby.

Specifically, then, in Suran in the marketplace even when one has the key -- the slaves refuse to be free'd. Is there anyway to convince them to run off and be all happy and free like?

some of the slaves in the game can't be free. check their speech. something like " there's no hope for us" or "we are doomed"
