Altho, i haven't been playing for that long, I already tend to see that there is a trend for preferred race for certain classes.
i.e. Mooks for rangers (providing u don't worry about the delay) Faerie for ninjas Elfen Biships Anymore preferred races for comments? |

Fighters - Lizardman, Dracon, Dwarf
Priest/Lord/Valks - Rawulf, Dwarf, Human Samurai - Hobbit, Human, Felpurr Ninja - Faerie, Hobbit, Human, Mook Ranger - Mook, Hobbit Monk - Human Bishop - Elf, Faerie, Felpurr, Gnome Gadgeteer - Hobbit, Mook, Gnome Bard - Hobbit, Felpurr, Mook Psionic - Mook, Human Mage - Elf, Faerie Alchemist - Elf, Gnome But those are just in general, it depends on how you want to play the character. There is a good summary of "best race for class" type stuff here: http://www.geocities.com/jandrall/. To me though I throw out the speed, except for whoever I designate to haste the party, so it matters alot less to me than the other stats.

My only problems with the Lizzie fighter is the low piety which means he learns his skills so slowly - plus the penalty to mental magic can be a bad thing if he's made insane or turncoated for example.
With a name like Gimli I guess I am biased in favor of a Dwarf, lol. But they do make great fighters, can't think of anything tougher to hit/damage than a dwarf fighter decked out in full plate, a shield, ironskin and his innate damage resistance. And a 50 wisdom helps him up his skills quickly too. But for the quick power strike/ironskin, yeah Lizzies are the best.

You mean low intelligence. Yes. And don't forget about low senses. Intelligence and senses are controlling attributes to close combat. Luckily the fighter gets 25% bonus to this skill, so no worries. If he would start to dualwield, then you would see some really slow development (if intelligence and senses stay at 30)
The resistances are bad, but fortunately, there are items and spells. It's if you are caught off guard that you are in trouble (because of resistances).

So far my Lizzy Fighter doesn't seem to have problem with resistant. Just get all those protection spell (magic screen) up and cast soul shield when battle against caster.

Felpurr Bard (to Fighter at L11),
Hobbit Lord, Elf Monk, Rawulf Bishop (unless you want a fast one), Mook Ranger or Fighter or Gad-to-Fighter, Human Player. |

Dracons are also very capable fighters, though I still use a lizzie.
Faeries are good for ninjas for one reason only-the Cane of Corpus. Am a cat person, so I just like Felpurrs anyway. Currently, I'm running a felpurr monk. I also liked my dwarven Valk. But also-I'm a much much more casual player than most of these people I don't play hobbits because everyone else does, and their stats don't fit my picture of a hobbit. My gadgeteer (who just rocks) is a gnome, purely for rp purposes because that's what gnomes do. One of the main reasons for the mook ranger (who I also really like) is the giant's sword that you get for him...it's the only extended range sword in the game.

Seems to me the extended range of the GS would be of little use unless all other members of the front row had extended as well-- otherwise, you'd still have to step up to get max. damage.
Just a thought, Oru |
