This may not qualify as an RPG, so just ignore this post. However, in case anyone knows this answer please help. We have installed Red Alert II on our system that is also running all of the BG games, Diablo II, & other Westwood games. The problem is that when the game starts up (single player, in either a skirmish or campaign), within 30 seconds all of the units being played "blow up" and I get the message saying your player is defeated. I have removed and reinstalled and done everything else Westwood suggested with no effect. The PC is a PIII, 800 mhz. 256 mb ram, and over 10 gb available disk space. If you have any ideas please let me know.

There was an RTS a few years back that did this when it thought you were breaking its copy protection, but for the life of me I cant remember which one. Red Alert II is definatly in the right timescale though, and it is an odd error, so im guessing thats your problem.

There are two possibilities - you have a legit copy and a crap CD-ROM drive, in which case you can probably fix your problem by patching to the latest version which almost always includes less rigorous protection.

The other possibility is you have an illegitimate copy, in which case your screwed. I cannot help you.

I had this exact same problem with RA2, which is pretty annoying when you're trying to have LAN battles with your mates and everything blows up and you get called a loser! I never had the problem using windows 98/millenium but got it soon after switching to windows 2000, so if you're using win2k or winxp then you can fix it the same way i did which was to install Yuri's Revenge (the expansion), alternatively, like andrewas says, download the latest patch and hope that sorts it out.
