getting to the second level of Katcher's Keep?

Ok, I'm on the first level of watcher's keep, and I know what order to use the bell, candle and book, but I don't see how to. I've tried placing them on the alter in order, but that only illicits noices for each item. I am supposed to put them on the alter right?

However, even though the question 'belongs' elsewhere, it's simple enough to answer:

Put all three items on the altar at the same time. Then you'll be prompted about what to do with them. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I've got it now, you can't remove the book from the alter, otherwise you don't get the prompts.
