Since your characters end bg2 at 17+ level, how do you think Black Isle will have it in the sequel to this. Either we're gonna have to start over or this is going to be one hell of a high level fight!
I really hope they make another game like this cuz I'm really lovin it. But imagine yourself being halfway into an imagined Baldur's Gate III and playing with a level 28 fighter fighting dragons for fun. Doesn't sound right does it? Any tips or suggestions? |

I agree, it is worrying as I like role-playing and it could degenerate into a power-game with only the gods left as a challenge. Maybe you will be reborn and your soul purified of it's taint and return at a lower level. I can see new gamers struggling to cope with the rules at such high levels as well. However the screenshots suggest enemies of quite low threat, such as spiders and umber-hulks, so maybe there is hope yet.

Actually I don't see this as posing a problem. I would imagine that our higher level enemies will have beefed up hit points, 200+ etcetera, higher levels of immunity, much better saving throws, possibly only effected by the highest level spells or only certain types, and only damageable by 4 or 5+ weopons etcetera, and only taking minimal levels of the high end damage. Just my thoughts on it

It is a long time ago now, but from what I remember of AD&D rules, there are few monsters capable of offering a challenge at this sort of level. If Dragons and Demi-Lichs aren't a problem, what will be!

When I used to play PnP AD&D, I found that the hardest "monsters" for players to meet and defeat/retreat were a group of similar in level DM controlled adventurers. Anything you can do... I also believe that handled properly, ie taking out kill while out of line of sight et cetera, huge ancient magic using dragons could, if properly handled with good AI, kick the snot out of just about any level characters. This might entail the dragons retreating when surprised or badly wounded or perhaps attacking the characters in a completely different environment. I never understood why a dragon that has wings and could simply fly away, just stays and slugs it out. Think of coming out of tough fight, like the underdark and having Frikrag and his two bigger brothers all gang-up and throw you your very own surprise BBQ party.

maybe just maybe they added the hole romance thing so you could have a child in bg3.. and you play the game as he/she so you will have to start over in a way. what do you think of that?

I believe the third installment will focus more on powerful wizards trying to thawart you (the end seemed to hint at that). This will involve a lot more NPC battles instead of monster battles.
There are also many planes to explore with the hardest critters, and that could also be the focus of BG3. The nine planes of hell seems a fitting end to this trilogy. If you played Planscape, you will remember many tough monsters for your level 18+ characters. The problem with 2nd edition rules is that there is much less in the way of Character development at high levels than most of us would like. I's fun to watch your HPs go up, and they don't at high levels. 2nd edition rules really are for characters up to about lvl 18 (where the Mage finally gets level 9 Spells). I played some of the 18-24 modules like "Earthshaker", which weren't nearly as much fun as modules like "Against the Giants". I wouldn't want it to get like Diablo with silly replay of the same monsters with more hit points as you progress in "stages". D2 allowed you to go up in levels and develop your characters to very high level (tops about 80), but the monsters were bogus - increasing the same monster to higher HPs is just boring IMO. Anyway, I like the plot of the BG2 series, but I like the "start from scratch" of IWD and PST. BG3 will be mostly plot, but I hope they start you at about level 16 so you can reach about level 24ish by the end. I'd like to see any game that doesn't favor hack-and-slay. Every one of these games is much easier to beat using 4 fighters, a cleric, and a thief. One thing nice about games like Fallout was that you could talk your way out of fights and get more XP for doing it. I'm replaying IWD again with 4 dwarf fighters, a Illusionist/Thief and a Ranger/Cleric and its 10X easier than my balanced party. I believe BG2 would be even easier with this recipe - using 4 1/2 Orc fighters, an Illusionist/Thief and a Ranger/Cleric. |

I think of it as this... BG3 can be game on where you travel on some plane (nine hells, even outer planes) and face SUPER enemies! And, since we are on our demi-god status, we can fight other avatars... maybe revived? It would be sure kicking Cyric... anyone wanna battle Odin?

Are there any plans for a Baldur's Gate III? I've only heard of NWN.

It seems to me that the natural conclusion of the series would involve the main character's ascension to godhood. Along those lines, a return to hell, battles with deities and their servants, and quests involving ancient dragons and other challenging monsters would offer a fitting challenge and conclusion to the series as the main character quests to assume her/his defined role as a deity. In addition, a return to the Underdark to battle with high-level drow, Lolth's minions, and perhaps Lolth herself would also be fitting challenges. In short, the D&D universe certainly has enough in stock to warrant a third installment (and likely conclusion) to the series.
