Does having search on help you locate monsters, eg from further away? It's just that, I usually have search on but I turned it off when I ran into some juggernauts so we wouldn't be 'surprised due to searching', then after we finished them, we were literally suprised (ie, not 'surprised due to searching', but I was suprised because I didn't see them on the radar until they were quite close) by a group of geomancers down the road with search still off.

Thanks

Nope. Searching works only for hidden items. Has nothing to do with finding monsters (though it may help them find you )

yah, and the sudden appearance on the radar is usually caused by a line-of-sight restriction.
What helps you see mobs from farther away is Scouting (Ranger only) and Senses. Every party should have at least one char with SEN over 50.

Also, you mentioned Juggernauts. Well, like many creatures on Dominus, they have that annoying stealth ability that makes them harder to see, so you might run into them before its too late to prepare.

No, we saw the juggernauts no problem, it was 3 geomancers and an earth elemental that snuck up on us .

Anyway thanks . It was probably a line of sight issue then . I think we have one person with 55 senses at least as well.

Another question I have with searching, is how long does it take to find something? I mean, obviously there's not a hidden object everywhere, but if something's going to turn up does it pay to stand about or will they find it if they're going to find it straight away? Hope that made sense

If you have a Ranger, hidden objects turn up pretty quickly. I think it's the same with searching, BUT--some objects seem to be better hidden than others. A Ranger or Detect Secrets spell seem to be the best way to find hidden objects. I have a party of six Dracon Fighters who can't find objects that I know are there (been found by every other party I ever had).

To get around the line of sight problem use the X-ray spell or a gadget equivalent. I generally find that you'll find an object within seconds if you are going to find it at all.

Thanks . Are there any 'good' hidden objects? Like, I don't know, magic weapons or something like that? I find mostly potions.

Some Instruments and Gadgets are hidden. And a lot of useful jewellery.

X-ray doesn't help finding hidden objects, but it shows unhidden ones from quite far away. To find hidden objects, use the spell Detect Secrets.
