First off hello, I am happy to see this board is still around, it is truely a invaluble tool for gaming fanatics!
I played Wiz8 in the past though due to a "no attention span issue" I did not complete it. So here I am attempting to once again finish this epic game. I am currantly at the Umpani base? And I recall from when I played before and reading here that you should be able to pickpocket the key from the spy at the store. However no matter what I do I always get caught the 3rd time. Reason why I am doing this is I know it will save alot of travel time...but is there another way to achieve the same end result of getting to the transporter? One other question is there a Jump ability? I know this sounds stupid but I could have swore you could jump in the game..but for the life of me can't figure out how.. Thanks in advance "If patience is a virtue how come I am virtually out of it?"

You don't really need the key from the spy. If you complete a few missions for the Umpani you'll get access to their humpwhammer which teleports to and from the house between the monastary and Arnika. The one way teleporter that the spy has access to isn't that great as you won't teleport to Arnika from the Umpani base very often (plus it's only a short stroll). Once you build a spellcaster up enough to cast the portal spells you can set one at the T'Rang teleporter which is much more useful. I believe you can get the key from him if you complete enough T'Rang missions but I'm not 100% sure on that.
There is no jump key, nor is there any real need for it. However if you run up a steep enough ramp you will actually bound up in the air. I can only assume while you were in the ship with Grimpax the Mook you had your legs surgically replaced with wheels. |

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping that I would not have to walk everywhere all the time, but as you said until I complete a few missions look's like that's how it is. I like exploring but sometime its nice to just do a mission!

Welcome to the boards!
spoiler . . . . . . . You can also kill him, and then he will drop the key, and then you can turn him in for xp, with the fake pass he also drops.

I always pick his pocket for the key because it's a great timesaver. The Humpawhamma is worthless, in my opinion, since it puts you nowhere important.
However, you do need good pickpocket skills to nab the key. Possibly yours is too low at the moment. Of course, even with good skills, there's no telling how long it will take. I typically have to restore several times before the key turns up. |

The game version you use also is important in successfully pickpocketing.
v1.2.4 makes it very harder, I heard.

Also important is your game level. Pickpocket in novice mode or in expert mode definitively not the same thing! |

Thanks for all the help and info! I just decided to move on and come back to this later. I am sure it will be resolved one way or another!

I've never bothered with the key, as far as I know he'll never pass it over willingly, and it's not that much of a shortcut anyway. I use the humpawhammer maybe twice in a game, just to get me to arnika when I'm too low to have any portal spells, and I only come to the umpani base when I have important business anyway. Killing Kunar is out of the question, I feel sorry for the poor bug-men when they get mad at me, and he's so adorably puffed-up I can't make myself do it. Base camp isn't the same without all the windbags.
As far as jumping, the closest thing I know of is combat run, it works well in some places. |
