I myself found, that RPC's are nearly never worth recruiting them, because they take away experience, and also when it is their skills which increase, then it is not your skills which increase. Added to that is the fact that none of them come everywhere with you, and for some of them the annoying voices they get, I would say that if I want to play a character who is like an RPC I would start him/her from the beginning and just not recruit anyone.

However if ther were some RPC's who had abilities which your characters don't have it would be interesting to use them just for that ability. This is the one thing that makes RFS usable, since no one else has complete immunity to mental spells.

What are your opinions on RPC's?

They have a certain novelty to them, and occasionally, some amusement value. However, after the first couple of games or so, I never bothered taking any of them, except for quest purposes (like rescuing Vi, the dropping her off at He'li's place). They really weren't necessary, and as you mentioned, take experience away from your own party.

No. Especially with tiny parties, they soak up a noticable amount of XP. Their development in the levels they've already had is mostly all wrong. And they don't have stealth already built up like the rest of my parties, so they take all the hits and die right away, at the same time negating the ability to stand there long enough that mobs retreat so you can get a little break in long combats.
But, they can be fun, and if you're bored with what you've been doing in the game, drag one or two around awhile...

i'd say quite the opposite scatter. when i was new to the game, using the NPCs was part of learning the game and experiencing everything it had to offer. it was only later when i was really focussed on MY teams and what i wanted them to achieve that i cut NPCs out altogether.

My first few times playing the game I took all the RPC's along so I could experience all the game had to offer. Now that I am a bit more experienced I only take the RPC's that are quest mandatory. I take myles along only long enough to rescue Vi and then I dump and the same with Vi, I take her along just long enough to rescue her and then deliver her to Braffit and He'li then she also gets dumped. The only RPC I still take along with me is RFS-81 because he is the best fighter and will go anywhere with you except the rapax away camp and no one can go with you there as you need two empty slots for the trang/umpani alliance quest.

IMO all of the RPC's except RFS are just not worth dragging along. They won't go to the places you need them most and they take valuable experience away from you party members.

definitely. of all the ones offered, RFS is the only one worth a hoot. however, since i tend to play small parties, i dont often bring him with either (sacrificing xp defeats the purpose of playing the small party!)

although, as "training wheels" for when i first started with small parties, he was invaluable
