Hello all,

Regarding the riddle fountain in Trynton :

All the times I have reached this point in the past my party have received +10 intelligence. However my current party received only +5 intelligence and a book of detection (unwanted frankly).

Having done a search of this forum, I have seen posts claiming you get :

+5 int
+5 int and book of detection
+5 int , book of detection and 5000 xp.

However noone seems to metion getting +10 int...Now I am convinced that I used to get +10...so this begs the question about what determines your prize for correctly answering the riddle...

My suspicion is it is down to party levels...as usually I level up plenty on the Arnika-Trynton road (I have a favourite spot which seems to work well). So usually I enter tryton somewhere about Level 12-14...however this time I have gone there early...(Level 8 I think).

Naturally I would rather +10 intelligence...but I would like to know how to guarantee it...

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Tony.

I've never heard of anyone ever getting anything other than the 5 Int, book, and 5000 XP. I've first tasted of its bounty as young as L7 and as old as L18.
I've done it more than 30 times, and it's never deviated for me, on no patch, patch 1, 1b and the newest patch.

Well, that is fascinating...I definitely have never received any XP let alone 5000...

So...you are saying it is not to do with party level...so...what else could there be...difficulty level? Perhaps in the past I was doing it on easy...and this time normal...?

Another idea I had was that in the past I have forgotten about it and already had my spellcasters on 100 int before arriving...thus not actually making good use of it...so perhaps it have my other characters +10...as some where already on 100...whereas this time I stopped my spellcasters on 90 int...hoping to finally make use of the bloody fountain...and I end up with only +5...and an unwanted book of detection...

Interesting....

Tony.

Welcome Tony!

Sometimes I think I recall a certain thing taking place in this game, but then am never able to repeat it. If that happened to you, don't be embarrassed, but, on the other hand, players are discovering new quirks about this game all the time.

There is a player here, Katero, who prefers (or did at one time) to play on Easy Mode for the fun it provides. Perhaps she can give her experiences with the fountain in that mode.

If there is a way to get 10 instead of 5 Intelligence Attribute Points, that would certainly be interesting.

Regarding the Detect Secrets Spell, you now know it is there so if anyone in your party can cast in the Mage or Psionic Schools of Mastery, you can leave a "hole" for it, for when you get there. Even if you don't cast it, knowing it will add a few Spell Points, which won't hurt. It is very common in this game to get one item of great treasure and the rest garbage.

EEWorzelle,

Thanks for your comments.

Rest assured that I am not at all embarrassed about my dodgy memory...I have thoroughly enjoyed wrecking it over the years!

However in this case I do not doubt it (my memory that is). Where numbers are concerned it seldom lets me down (maths teacher you see). I am *sure* that I have *always* got +10 int from that fountain in the past. I know this because time and time again I would curse my memory for allowing me to let my chars go over 90 on level ups. So I vowed to myself that THIS time I would remember to stop and 90. I still balls up and allowed my mage to go to 93...but remembered with the alchy...than much to my dissappointment I get only +5 this time...

So I know that +10 is possible...just have to figure out how...like you say...I should try to repeat it...which I will attempt to do and then get back to you on that...I am not sure how to go about attempting to repeat something that has always been the case before...as I play so differently with each restart...but hey...I bet I have fun trying!

Though I remain hopeful that someone else on this forum will solve it before I have to go through all that again...lol

Take care,

Tony.

P.S. Thanks for the welcoming comments above...great forum...I have used it for a while as an unregistered reader...but now that I have finished the game quite a few times I may get more involved with the discussions...

Maybe it has to do with what you type? It will accept "knowledge" or "experience" maybe the pay off is different?

Well I'd love to hear how you did it if you can still access the brain cells with that secret inside of them I've always gotten 5 points from it myself.
