I've been trying to get crock to move so I could run upstairs and steal his stuff in the chest. I tried luring creatures from the swamp to his house. For some very strange reason they run away from the place. Do you guys know if there's anyway to get past Crock and go upstairs (without killing him, of course)?
Oh and what happens if you kill him before he kidnapps a party member? [ 06-25-2003, 04:09 PM: Message edited by: Gab ]

I think I'm in a minority on this but I never kill Crock because he keeps getting great items of use to magic-heavy parties throughout the game. I usually keep a portal at him and it is nice to have a safe spot where enemies won't come.
I don't know why they won't enter his house, perhaps it's the smell... I tried engaging enemies then running inside, but they just retreated. Anyway, there are a few methods some have used, involving Hypnotic Lure, cast near the ceiling in a certain place near the door. I have never gotten it to work myself. I have never seen the upstairs at Crock's place or what's in his chest (shrug). From others posting it contains some nice stuff but usually nothing special. Oh, I forgot. If you kill him before the kidnap there will just be no kidnapping. I have not done this myself but other players report no ill-effects (other than a dead Crock). Way back when, a couple of people claimed they got past Crock using the "lure monster" approach, but it never worked for me or most other players. Basically, the only way past him is to kill him.
Sometimes I killed him, sometimes I didn't. Depended on my mood. But I never wasted him until well after the kidnapping/frog quest. |

It seems to me that luring crock away was possible in early versions, but was fixed in some patch.

Well, I had the original release, and the only patch I put in was the first, which only fixed the Ascension peak crash. Of course, it's possible I was just unlucky with the attempt.
Even so, in the games where I took him out, I found the items in the back to be less than thrilling. So it's really no big deal if you don't get to them. |
