Are there any consequences for stealing stuff or killing unimportant commoners as long as you're not seen? I stole all the guy's soul gems at the mage's guild in balmora. It doesn't seem right that I should be able to just steal the dude's wares while all I'm supposed to be doing is putting a fake sould gem in in his desk. Is this gonna bite me in the @$$ later, or am I just paranoid.

The rule is: If nobody sees it, it never happened. However if you steal items from merchants then do not sell it back to that particular merchant or you will be in trouble. Likewise, in the mages guild do not ask the wizard there to enchant one of your items using a soulgem you stole from her.
