...about the unlit 'fire kettle' [looks sorta like a drum] near the manna fountain in Trynton? Gives a hand signal, says specific item is needed to use it.

Dunno how many times I wandered by without noticing it, and am now wondering what [if anything] it does...

Doesn't seem to do anything. maybe it's another red herring in the game.

Yeah I think it is, have heard it discussed before. It's probably another unfinished piece of the game, but basically does 0 now (other than confuse people, lol

I kinda suspected as much, since I've never seen it mentioned as an 'important' game thing.

Was kinda hoping it would stop the hex effect at the fountain. Tried 'using' glowing goo and incense, to no effect of course.

Here's another: what about the crank device you can see from the ground in Trynton, and reach by taking the elevator and rope from the ratkin tree? rope doesn't reach the ground, and though it gives you a hand signal, nothing happens. Have a feeling it was going to be a shortcut to the ratkins, but was left unfinished.

I think that does lower the rope down to the ground if you use it, then it gives you a shortcut up to the rattkin tree, you just have to move the mouse over it until it hits just the right spot, I've used it before in games.

Yah, that's the Ratts' backdoor. You can unroll the rope from on the porch, just touch the crank or drum. You have to grab the rope in order to go down it, once it's unrolled, else you will fall fairly severely.
