I heard from a forum that if you change class from a caster to a hybrid your casting level will be considered 4 levels lower. So if I change from a caster to a hybrid and then another hybrid (eg. bishop-samuri-ranger), will my casting level decrease by 8 lv?

First off, the question of why you would ever do this arises. next, as for casting after class changing, you start over as a lvl 1 character in your new class. If the classes share skills then these skills can still improve, but any non-shared skills will never improve again. I once changed a 21 Alchemist to a ranger, and could cast all the spells, but at a lower power level the before, so yes, your power is reduced. I'm not sure about specific levels though.

What should have happened with the class change system (that fits this game... as it was VERY different from Wiz 6 and 7), is if you changed from a Level 21 Alchemist to a Level 1 Ranger, you'd still always cast as a level 21 Alchemist, and that would begin improving again when you become a Level 5 Ranger. Even if you changed to a Level 1 Samurai, you'd still be a Level 21 Alchemist and then start on the Wizardry side of magic with the Samurai.

Sadly, it does not work this way.

At least the way it works keeps players in check compared to what characters could become in previous wizardry episodes. Always changing classses, everyone being a Jack-of-all-trades.
