Finding the light sword

Is there any trick to finding the light sword? I have saved the game in the shallows just around the corner from the Bucaneer ghosts. I keep fighting them, searching their dropped bags (no light sword, just lots of vaporizers), and reloading to fight again. Does it matter how long the fight takes, or whether you blow them away with spells vs. melee, or how close you are to them when you kill them? My bishop can make short order of them with Banish, and Soul Shield/Magic Screen seem to block everything they throw at me, so killing them doesn't take long. But I don't understand why I have yet to see a stinking light sword! Is it purely random, or is there some trick?

Check the chests on the beach in Bayjin. There's one chest that's guarded by one rynjin. If it's not in the chest, try it again until you find it.

Lawdog1 - I tried over 150 times with no luck! Got the Light Shield maybe 10 times but never the Light Sword. Major disappointment! Even did the thing where you fight the ghosts to bring their HP down low without killing them then run away to stop combat then save. Then the battles do not take as long each time. Finally just gave up and went with the Light Shield. Any of the chest locations need to be saved before entering the area the first time because that is when the chest contents is set. That becomes a major hassle.

Thanks for the replies. I don't mind if the light sword drop is purely random, because I can kill off the ghosts in a few rounds. I was just wondering whether the way you killed them or the time it took you to kill them had any impact on what they dropped. Probably not, but I thought I would ask.

You won't find the lightsword in the chest in Bajin, there you acn only find the lightshield.
Only the ghosts drop the lightsword and you just have to be patient. Banish is a very nice spell for them. I read a hint, that you kill some of them and blind or paralyze the other..cancel the combat and save. Then you have not so much ghosts to kill everytime.

This is how I handled those buccaneer ghosts...

I used only group affecting spells till all of them were down to 10-20 pts... then I ran away.

They will retreat after a few rounds.

Then I went back and saved just out of sight.

All I had to do was to initiate combat,have my gadgeteer and bishops cast Noxious fumes, and take 2 steps so the ghosts were in sight.

The battle takes 10secs, so easy to try again and again... I got one lightsword after about 15 tries.

If you want more than one Lightsword, u have to find another way.

To really annoy all of u who are searching for the lightsword I whould just like to say that i got both lightsword and lightshield on my very first attempt. =)

I could understand why people would want this sword if one could sell it on e-bay.. but to go through all this trouble for a sword in game you're likely to complete in a couple of hours is beyond me. There are so many great swords out there; not fantastic, but still very decent... doing 150 buccaneer-runs is just stupid, in my opinion.. It's not like there will ever be a new wizardry for which you can transport your characters and your light sabre to..

Even if you wanted it that bad, wouldn't be much easier to download an editor, give yourself a light sword and then uninstall in order to prevent further abuse.. 5 minutes + cheating beats hours + not cheating, IMO..

Hell I killed the Bucs and Nessie and everything
else I've encountered without the sword or the
shield. It's all in the party makeup, character
building, and oh yeah, a little something called
strategy. Nice items to have but not "must haves"
IMHO. But hey, it's your game. Knock yourself out.

you can get multiple light swords:
Wear them all down, back off & save
Kill only one; you can check the drop during combat (which freezes when you click on the bag)
Repeat until you're sick of it.

My record is 3 in 5 hours of reloading.
