Ok I'm at level 20/21 in my party. My L21 mage has ALL the Mage spells except Hex and Armormelt. Since he isn't going to get any more useful spells, and he is already at 100 Wizardry (without the 25 Bonus), I was thinking of switching him to another job. Good idea / bad idea?

If I do switch him, what do you think I should make him? Here is my party so far...
Lord, Samurai, Bishop, Ranger, Ninja, Mage (with two NPC's.. a Bard and a Valkyrie).

I have a whole bunch of Gadgets that I haven't got to put together yet so I was thinking Gadgeteer; but seeing as how I'm ready to go into Rapax Rift my Bard will not willingly join me so maybe I should make him a Bard. On the other hand, maybe I could make him a Psionic and gain more spells.. choices choices

Level 21? I have yet to finish the game so I do not know what level will be attainable by endgame time.

I changed my high level Mage (somewhere after lvl 19) into a Bishop, it worked well. After a few more level ups, was able to visit a few merchants and bought all the spellbooks I could.

Problem with changing to a "skill" type like a bard is that levels come so slowly he will never attain the necessary skil at music to be able to use the cool bard instruments. At least that was the problem I had.

From some of the other threads I've seen, you might consider a fighter, but then that is not all that "fun". I personally prefer more than just a hack-and-slash character (of course he would have all the mage skills still...) Some other school of magic might be fun, that's why I reaally love my bishop. Really comes down to your own preference more than anything, not really a "right" answer.

Doesn't really answer your question, but ...

You're kind of in a bind. Many classes will be useless to you.

Ninja. Sorry, too late. By the time your new Ninja would even approach the faintest glimmer of a chance, the game will be over. Monk. Ditto. Gadgeteer & Bard will be hopelessly limited, too.

Rogue wouldn't be much use to your party. You can't fight, and who cares about the rest of the abilities by this point.

Fighter, you're probably way too weak. Maybe a polearm fighter if you've got the stats. Valykrie, only if gender and abilities would allow. The same with Lord, with the additional problem that Lords develop LATE and you'll never make it to their peak performance.

Ranger, depends on your senses and level up choices. You can be "ranged" with throwing & sling, too. At least you'll have more offensive fire-power and better armour.

Bishop & Priest are both workable. Bishop will get you three more schools. Make some money and you'll fill in a majority of your missing spells quickly. Priest will give additional healing to supplement your offensive magic, but I doubt that's really needed.

Alchemist would get you better armour. But at those levels, that's not really an over-riding concern. You'd also add a few spells that are semi-duplicates of Mage spells. Plus "Heal Wounds" and a few Priest duplicates.

Psionicist would be an excellent choice. Many creatures don't have resistance to the Mental Realm. Ego whip is a kick-butt spell. You should have a lot of points in the Mental Realm to help with spell choices. Plus there are non-combat spells to help you develop your skills quickly. And they over-lap in equipment very well, so you probably won't suddenly find yourself without something important.

I'd go with a Psionicist. Use detect secrets & other mental (Psionic Realm) spells as much as possible. In and out of combat. All the time.

Bishop is my suggestion.

Bishop if you want alchemy, divinity & psionic realms/spells.

Only problem i can forsee is that your at level 21 so you must be ready foror have started Ascension Peak as most people end up finishing the game at 22-25 levels.

When you switch character to dual class they start as a Level 1 npc in that class "but" they dont start as a level 1 experience. If you switch to another class now you will still require the same exp from level 1 - 2 as your mage did from level 21 - 22. Thus making levels "far & few" between which will affect spell gains due to level restrictions on spells.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I was going to change to a Psionic but the game told me I would lose all my saved spell picks (i had 3 saved up) so I thought I would change to a Bishop (I got to keep my saved spell picks) and I'll just concentrate on his Psionics skill.

Actually I haven't even started Rapax Rift yet; I like to work on building up massive experience levels and skills so I can be pretty well in control

My Mage happened to be a Faerie (and my Ninja is something else) so I was thinking of changing to Ninja so I could use the Cane of Corpus. Unfortunately I didn't have enough attributes. Plus, my Mage-turned-Bishop is wielding a Staff of Doom which is cool enough for me
