I have the patch but when I went to go to Ascension the game closed and I was returned to the desktop. Help

Sounds like you might not have the patch installed correctly. Are you sure you put the EXE file in the \Program Files\Sirtech\Wizardy 8 directory, and that you saw a message when you ran it about overwriting on all the files? I know I reinstalled it wrong once just by not paying attention.
