The problem here is that, whilst yes the manual is very good and I can understand you wanting to preserve it, if someone were to post a "downloadable" copy of the manual, they would firstly be in violation of the copyright laws (read the inside cover of the manual), but also would make the illegal copying of the game on so called "Warez" sites much more wide spread.

I'm sure you agree, Wizardry 8 is a quaility product and the developer deserves all the sales of their product as they arte entitled to.

Regards,
- Wolfie

I had the same reason when I bought some of the games way back several years. Now, looking at the piles of manuals, only the trashbin seems the most inviting place for them.

How I got to keep my manuals in good condition you might ask? well just look for a friend who have one and borrow it until years later, you still have that manual you borrowed from your now-pissed friend: "Its %^#& about time... I havent played Warcraft in 5 years!"

Another solution is to BUY another copy. I bought two copies of D2 because I simply wanted to keep the CD in mint condition only to find out that there are "no CD-Hacks" that allows us to play the game without the CD. Same thing with Sirtech's JA2 game.

But the best solution is simply IGNORE the manual and play the game without it. I did not learned playing Baldur's Gate from reading the manuals - i learned to play the game from forums. Likewise, I learn more things about W8 in the forum than reading the manuals. Otherwise, why would forums exist if the manuals are "all-knowing".

Oh, I would recommend you read the Wiz8 manual, it is down-right funny, and a great read. Also, you avoid p***ing off other members of forums by asking questions which are quite clearly answered in the manual.

Many games I have came with a pdf version of the manual on the CD. Since the book was made on a computer, it does not seem like a huge leap to think it could stay online.

As for encouraging warez, I don't think anything would stop those people; piracy is out of control. However in my case I have actually gone out and purchased a game or two after reading a website or online manual. So maybe the pros and cons balance out!

What is there in the manual that you would need to keep looking at other than spells?

I have a spell list on my website (listed below). Other than that, no, it's not available (and if it is, it's not known here, or not gonna be spread around here). I understand wanting to keep the book in perfect condition - this is why I did a spell list, because spells were the only reason I kept cracking my book open.

I have a weird dilemma. I don't invest in pirate software, BUT I travel to Thailand a lot (my girlfriend is Thai and is back there 6 months of the year). Now, there is a plethora of pirated software, BUT you can also buy the original software at a fraction of the US cost. I mean, a boxed set with manual, individual cd key (for games like Red Alert, etc). We're talking cheap. 10-15 bucks for Ghost Recon, Emperor of Dune, Max Payne (the pirated usually go for around 3.50 a CD, no documentation, natch). The only problem is that the manual is in Thai. My reading skills are still pretty basic, so I can't use them. I usually use the tutorial (if they have one) and I'm cool. I bought Wiz 8 here, because I didn't want to wait (and they usually only have the major games over there).

I'm heading back in 2 weeks and should be able to get a bunch of new titles! I'm psyched.

This saves me a lot of dough because I have four computers on a LAN and even though I could make copies of the CD, usually I don't like to do that.

Sorry jsteng I have to disagree with this. I found the manual a great read and it does give you the basics to be able to start playing the game (expecially for newbies).
The forums like IW are great to get ideas on how to tweak your characters and how to get the best playing experience.

This is a bit harsh wolfie. While some questions asked in forums may have the answer in the manual it can be hard to find the answer you need without the use of an index as is the case with the Wiz 8 manual. For my part I have no problem with someone asking a question that may have an answer in the manual............there is after all 133 pages of info in there. I have no doubt asked a question here myself where the answer could be found in a manual. I guess I was just lucky that people wanted to help me anyway and gave me no indication that I was P***ing them off. To them I give a heartwarming THANKS
Wolfie...comments like yours will only turn people away from what is a great forum.

Thank you for the spell list. It's the main reason why I need the book.
As for warez, those people are going to pirate software with or without the manual. So the manual thing is kinda moot.
