RFS-81 (I call him Rufus) has joined us and, since I've never played a monk before in any RPG, I'd sure like a little advice.
* I note he has polearm skill and can use a sling. Does he use weapons effectively, or does he fight better empty-handed? * What about armor? I gave him robes, but maybe he fights better naked as a jaybird? * I see in the manual that monks start gaining Psi sspells after the fifth level, but he doesn't seem to. On one hand, it does make sense that an android can't do magic. On the other hand, in a land of magic, why not? On the third hand (all us dwarves from Barsoom have three hands) why don't I just ask my Ironworks friends? Throg ------- My cats knead me [ 01-26-2002: Message edited by: Throg ]

RFS (my fave, because he goes everywhere except the Away Camp), will not learn spells.
My experience with his fighting ability: he does well with martial arts, and has more attacks that way than with a weapon. Keep him with you, and over time his melee ability will become quite good. His slinging, however, is terrible. You'll need to work on ranged and throwing with him. I usually don't give him anything better than spike stones until he's become really proficient in the sling department. I always give him the best armor we can manage (which isn't much, since he's a monk), and it has no effect on his performance. What matters, as always, is encumbrance. As long as his load isn't in the blue, he'll be fine. |

RFS-81 has no magic.. sorry
Monks have a very limited armour. but robes are better then nothing. You could train him with weapons, I never keep him in my party long. I found his pretty good unarmed, getting 2-4 attacks around normaly and doing around 10-15 damage per attack. If you are going to keep RFS-81 in your party ive heard he will go almost anywhere unlike other PC's, that leave when they don't like a map area. |
