Awww, Liz...I'm so sorry. {{{{HUGS}}}}
I'm fortunate that I don't have that particular malady of motion sickness, but I am utterly sympathetic to those that do. My mom is that way; she'd probably be able to watch Wiz 8 for about 5 mins before she'd be so nauseated she'd have to lie down. Maybe Dramamine might help, as Vesselle suggested. All Dramamine ever did for me was make me sleepy, though. (They urged me to take it when I went on a cruise ship one time. I never did again, and was never seasick.) Cheers,

Halflife and Unreal do it to me every time. I'm lucky that this game allows for the occasional break

oh nooooo!! i am so sorry. that's totally awful. it never occurred to me that there might be side effects like that. but thinking about it, you know, tylenol makes me sleepy. i'm extremely susceptible to motion sickness and have to take dramamine if i plan on being in a car for more than 15 minutes, much less fly or sail. and to think, i used to skydive. it's so regretable that you can't enjoy the game. i wish there was something that could be done, because great games like this are so rare. Oh Lady Nightshade, how horrible. I am so sorry you are having these problems. Some people have said you should try dramamine. There is another product and I just can't think of the name of it. Look at your drugstore near the dramamine. It works much better and you don't get drowsy. Whenever I fly, I always have to take something. I have horrible motion sickness, but for some reason, the game hasn't given me any problems. I do take frequent breaks, so maybe you might want to try that. Hope something works, hate for you to miss out on such a terrific game.

I had horrible motion sickness with UT, but Wiz 8 has been fine so far. 2 things; I have a bigger monitor now [19 in instead of 15] and I've stopped jerking around so much. I used to constantly strafe or look side to side way too much and that's what killed me. I've also heard that putting a post-it note in the upper corner of your monitor helps your brain/eyes somehow.
Also, there are some nice long battles here so I use them as rest periods and don't move the screen at all during these. I feel your pain since I've had to abandon games in the past because of this. Maybe something will help. |

Personally, I've never had any problems with 3D games, and I'm inclined to think that people who do are just playing the game wrong. For example, make sure you don't move your head when you go around corners etc. =) (I always thought it funny when people lean or turn there heads when playing 3D games) That would probably make me sick.
Just remember you're looking at a flat surface. Probably moving your head closer and further away from the screen is fine, but I'm sure if I moved my head from left to right I'd be spewing all over the place. lol ~l8er |

No, no, Feanor, it's a bit more than just "not playing the game right." Motion sickness, or more commonly called vertigo, is a medical condition caused by a slight dysfunction in the inner ear where the balance gland exists. This may be congenital (from birth), caused by a severe ear infection (otitis media), or caused from a lesion or injury to the ear, say, during an accident. It is most assuredly not the fault of the player.
People who suffer from motion sickness generally cannot ride on carnival or amusement park rides, may experience "car sickness" or "flight sickness" during travel, and may have problems with balancing. Dramamine and other anti-vertigo medicines sometimes help, but often as not they tend to put them to sleep. So games in which the background is constantly changing or the perspective is moving (in other words, 3D first-person games, especially the modern variety) are likely to cause feelings of dizziness and nausea in people who suffer from vertigo. Be grateful that you don't suffer from such a condition, but please be sympathetic to those who do. I know, because my mom suffers from this as well, and it's just by the grace of God that I don't, since it seems to be an inheritable trait. Cheers, -Sazerac |
