I just got wizardy 8 not too long ago and seems like everytime I try to use a mage my mage dies fast. Seems like with the low hit points creatures eat up my mage fast. I have a elf mage, anyone got any help or ideas how I can keep the mage alive? Should i keep the mage in the back?

Always a good idea to keep the weakest characters in the back!

Hope that will help your mage! When he levels up - invest some points into vitality!

Keep your delicate casters in the back of your formation.

When initiating combat, try to keep your back to a wall or have your flanks covered by some sort of terrain. This will help alleviate you getting surrounded and/or being attacked by the flank or rear.

Standing in a doorway is an excellent location to initiate combat. Only 2-3 creatures can attack you from a doorway and they will be forced to attack your front row tanks, leaving your weaker members free from melee damage.

If you try to approach a room that has creatures in it and they spot you before you have a chance to turn and face them, you will be at a serious disadvantage. To help this, always approach and unknown area using your strafe keys. (I think the defaults are "0" and "." on the Keypad) Strafe will allow you to keep your heading towards your target while being able to move to the side. If you are spotted and combat initiates, you will have your front tanks facing the enemy instead of your flank.
