At random points during the game (it happened while talking to Xzar once, or being given an item) a little sign came up saying "aura cleansed" or something along those lines.
Does anyone know what it does?

You sure about that? I've gotten this message in BG2, but I don't think I've ever gotten it in BG1. It happens after casting a special ToB HLA.
Do you have tutu or BGT installed?

You get it at various points in the game... The time it sticks out the most is in Durlag's Tower, after doing something hair-related.

The reason why "Aura Cleansed" is there is for no other reason than it looks cool. It was part of the development process, and instead of removing it before release, BioWare decided to leave it in just for atmosphere (a BioRep mentioned this a long time ago, in a land far, far away). It was likely part of the debugging process, perhaps as a visual marker for something particular happening.

The Aura Cleansed message was leftover from the development days, has no effect, but was left in because it was "cool". It either marked the occurance of a particular event for the devs (for troubleshooting purposes) or was part of an effect that was later removed but the message left in. Regardless, it's just there for interest's sake.

Aura Cleansed: Every once in a great while, you'll see this message pop up in the text window during BG1. Neither I nor anyone else has a clue what it is or what it does—probably nothing. There is a BG2 spell called Daer'Ragh's Aura Cleansing (which makes it so you can cast a spell, then cast another spell without having to wait for the start of the next round), but it was never actually implemented in the game. On the 2 or 3 situations that I've had my Aura Cleansed, it's always been in a dialogue situation, not in combat.
