I just finished reading the book, The Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings.

Basically this thread is just about what you thought of the book. Did you enjoy it? Did it make you want to keep reading? Was there anything you noticed about the writers etc?

My Opinion

I thought the book was quite good. It had a nice interweaving intricate story line, even if parts were just to much of a "coincidence" for my liking (i.e. the fact that Althalus just happens to be telling the story of Gosti and then Gher just comes up with a great idea, just when they need it)

The main thing I noticed really, especially in the last few hundred pages, was the fact that the authors kept repeating sayings, I almost knew what characters were going to say. Now some people may like this, but I just found it a bit annoying, and I'd say a thesauras would be in order there.

The ending was O.K. but then I always have complaints about endings, I suppose it was satisfactory, but I just felt it was quite abrupt.

That'l do for now, before I posted this thread I had many comments to make, but I just got back from a holiday and I am very tired, so maybe Il add more tomorow, but for now, you guys...take it away.

I've also read this book and thought that the ending was a bit predictable.

I've moved on to Eddings new book the Elder Gods (I've now got the second in the series but can't remember the name right now). To me his books are getting kind of predictable. They have the same basic story line. Smart arse Theif, spoiled princess, good strong warrior, a race of good aligned people who are good with boats)

Don't get me wrong I love the books but I find my self gusssing the ending way to much.

If you can find her I would recomend an Australian author Sara Douglass. Her earlier books are typical fantasy but her later books ( The Troy Game and The Crucible) take events from history and give them a dfferent meaning.

I thought it was an average book, not a horrible read but lacking real depth, very predictable, and the characters were too 'cookie cutter' IMO. Imagery was OK, plot was decent. 5 out of 10 but with zero rereadability.

yeh I wouldn't read it again, unlike the farseer books which I absolutely loved. The thing that got me was, why is there a no.1 book award thing on the front of the book, I mean it wasn't that spectacular.

The Farseer books are fantastic! Have you read the new series? ( the one that starts with the Golden Fool)

yep, I have read every single one. They are truly amazing. A shame there probably wont be another series. I remember reading the ending offools fate (the last book) over and over again, just letting it sink in. I hate endings, they always feel so abrupt, even though I suppose they aren't really, but it's kinda like saying good bye to a whole world (if, like me you get really into the series) and all the characters that it's centered on. But...you never know, there may be another trilogy on Nettle.
