When the Iron Tutu competition rolled around, I knew that I lacked the familiarity with BG1 that would hold up against the time constraints of the event, but I had the will to do something Tutuesque to celebrate the theme of the weekend. That weekend turned into a month, resulting in this little endeavor.
The Finch NPC mod Version 1 is made for BG1Tutu and includes: - One neutral good, gnome cleric of Deneir. Finch comes with a bookbag, perfect for keeping those precious scrolls and volumes safe, and she wears glasses that allow her a burst of inspiration in identifying items. Also, she doesn't take the glasses off her head, because then she wouldn't be able to see, and that would be very bad for a would-be hero librarian. - There is one NPC-related quest, because people like quests - One custom portrait and a new soundset of dubious entertainment value. Some soundset lines change due to game events. Over 60 voiced lines! - Content comprised of 2-4 banters with each of the Bioware NPCs, a few dozen interjections, and some PC-initialized talks! Finch Bloomwhiffler is quick to enthuse about stories she has read, libraries she has visited and tomes that she has had the honor to copy, but for all her knowledge, Finch has never truly experienced a life of adventure outside the pages of a book until you encounter her. (You can meet Finch during the Prologue at Candlekeep before you depart with Gorion, and she is joinable in Beregost.) Finch wavers between trepidation and enthusiasm at each new turn, keeping her quill ever at the ready. She is a hero, and she is a librarian! Check her out! You can download Finch here.

Lol, I just came here to announce the same!
Installing now - Indira lies poinsoned in the wyvern cave so my party needs a replacement! This looks pretty cool, thanks for taking the time to make it! Hmm...having some difficulty finding her. Spoilers # # # # # Where exactly is she in the Red Sheaf? I've looked both upstairs and downstairs with no luck. I've also tried reinstalling her. Do you have a code handy for CLUAing her into the game? [ 03-09-2005, 04:05 PM: Message edited by: shamrock_uk ] |

The Red Sheaf would be area FW3357 in Tutu. The inn entrance is to the left of where you encounter Silke in Beregost. Finch should be on the first floor [431.403].
You can CluaConsole Finch into the game with: CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("sufinch1") You can also pick "sufinch2" and "sufinch4", depending on your level. Keep in mind Finch's joining dialog refers to the assassin the PC encounters in the Red Sheaf, Karlat.

My party is too fighter-lite at the moment so she doesn't have the luxury of hanging back slightly to engage later - I order her into battle to protect me from the creatures so I can cast spells in peace. The ~8HP is just too painful for a figther-like character, a critical hit from a goblin with a bow can kill her! Anyway, Indira failed to hold the left flank against the wyverns, much to Kagain's disgust and resulting in the death of Jaheira. I like to run a tight ship in my parties, and with Kagain's urging to get rid of dead wood I made the decision to move on without her. Also, from a purely gameplay point of view, I didn't really see any banters from her apart from the initial couple - the other banter-packed NPC's seemed to be more talkative. Finch seems to have more dialogue too. Thanks for your reply Bons, I shall try that when my much depleted party returns from the mines of Cloakwood. At the moment, Luthan (wild mage), Kagain, Branwen and Coran (a monster with that 3APR bow!) are my party. In BG1 another cleric is always welcome, although I have a nasty feeling that a librarian will have trouble wearing plate mail. Will have to see if I can find another decent tank in my travels. Hmm...she spawned fine using the console but keeps striking up a conversation ever couple of seconds. The conversation options are the ones you get if your main character tries to strike up a conversation with her. This continues even when she's not in the party. Any suggestions to fix this?
Oh, and a slight bug possibly: If she dies and is removed from your party without resurrection, her satchel turns up in the PC's inventory and is irremovable. |

If you don't reinstall, to stop the looping in an old version (I'm assuming you found a quest item and that triggered the problem), highlight Finch and set these variables with CLUAConsole: CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("SUFinchBook1Comment", "LOCALS", 1) CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("SUFinchBook2Comment", "LOCALS", 1) CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("SUFinchBook3Comment", "LOCALS", 1) CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("SUFinchBook4Comment", "LOCALS", 1) CLUAConsole:SetGlobal("SUFinchBook5Comment", "LOCALS", 1) Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

No problem, always happy to help
Actually, no quest items were involved - this happened immediately after I spawned her. I may not be able to play for the next two or three days, but will re-install and try her out as soon as I can. |

Good to see another small adventurer in BG1, you can never get enough of a good thing. Unfortunately I play on an old computer without Tutu installed, so I can't meet her at the moment.
Nice one, Bons

For Finch to show up at Red Sheaf. Start a new game.
Spoiler # # # # # # # # # Talk to her in Castle Keep(don't know if this is a spoiler or not but oh well) Also get her at lvl 2 because I got her into my party at lvl 1 and when she lvled and I hit lvl up my game crashed everytime. When I got her at lvl 2 and she advanced to lvl 3, my game didn't crash. |
