I think the problem they've got is that really KB could have been one film, if Tarantino had been ruthless in the editing room (never his strong point). As such releasing both halves so close together would really highlight the fact that splitting them into two has really only served the studio's bank accounts. The studio (Miramax if I recall) has claimed that the decision to split was an artistically based one. If thats the case then they really should give out vouchers to see part 2 for free whenever you go see part 1. Whilst it may deal with the film in manageable chunks its also a real money spinner for them. They'll delay the release of part 2 for a while, as otherwise the financial nature of the decision will be extremely transparent. The more distance they put between the two the more they'll look like two seperate films.

I like long films and I am glad the era of 2 hr+ films has returned, after a hiatus during the 1980s and early 90s when 90 minutes appeared to be the targeted time all too often.

And, I think paying for time is not that horrible. If movie studios based ticket prices on duration of the films, I would think it'd be perfectly fair. That said, I don't mind paying for the second one.

In the case of KB 1 and 2, I think Tarentino simply made the movie he wanted, and the studio say it was too long and he should do something about it. He probably decided to split it rather than cut his work down. Perhaps an egotistical choice, but Q.T. is certainly not a humble man.

Could we have done with a shorter KB#1? Perhaps. I certainly wouldn't notice if there had been a dozen less limbs shown being hacked off. But, I don't think it's that big an issue. Movie companies don't make movies for charity, you know. Just like Mozart (well, economically at least), they create art for a fee.

Well, personally TL I think KB part 1 could have been a hell of a lot tighter. I know Tarantino loves his films, but he should really bite the bullet and just cut stuff out occasionally. Maybe this is all just because I'm a fan without much cash - but I'd personally have prefferred to see one long film than two stretched out and still short ones.
