Okay, I just saw the most incredible episode of Oprah.

First, don't dis me. Oprah rocks. I met Howard Lyman who sat next to her through the Texas cattle trials and he unconditionally said he had never met a more honorable straightforward nice person. I agree. She works more to help folks than anything else. I like her, I respect her. She came from nothing, and she really does have a talent -- with acting and with people.

But, tonight my wife was watching and I got sucked in completely. She had Shania Twain on, another girl who came from "poorer than poor" in celebration of Shania being the highest selling female solo singer ever. Shania got to sing, and then fulfill a lifelong dream of hers .... singing with Dolly Parton.

now, that was nice. Shania, who rarely is emotional, cried a bit. First, let me say I adore Shania for her beauty, her songs, and her down-home waste-not attitude.

On to Dolly. Dolly Parton is an icon. She has written SO MANY songs, from her own hits to Whitney Houston's. From growing up on country up to my more rock-ish tastes I have always found her songs to be some of the most soulful honest things out there. She's been doing her thing for 40 years, and still has the same spunk, attitude, and amazing voice packed in a tiny frame. In fact, I'm itching to rent "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and watch it again, as I remember watching it over and over during my childhood.

On to Melissa Etheridge. She also sang with Dolly. Another strong woman who has lived life by her own rules. And is happy and healthy from doing so.

Kudos, all around. I saw good interviews and like 4 different songs from these great women. It was a sight to behold.

I've had my estrogen injection for the week.

Couldn't agree more on the Shania part though.

Bah, I can't stand Shania, although it's more for the fact that she used country music to get famous and then {expletive deleted} on it and turned to pop, it really ticks me off that she gets any air time on country radio at all, I normally change stations as soon as she comes on (or if I hear a rumor that she's going to be coming on) as she is not country, and hasn't been for her last two albums.

of course I have similar complaints about other cross-over artists.

I agree with you about melissa etheridge and Dolly though.
