Yes,down there it says "From:Germany" but we moved to Colorado about4-5 years ago, and since we'll move back soon, I just put down Germany.. anyway, a book store here in Colorado Springs announced that Salvatore will be there signing copy's of his new book "The Lone Drow." I've only ever read the Icewind Dale trilogy, though I liked it, I'm not really a big fan of his. Should I get a signed copy anyway? Also, is this book part of a series?

Just Thought I'd let you all know, thanks for reading

I think the Lone Drow is part of something, a sequel to A Thousand Orcs maybe. Regarding the book signing, I would go. I'm not a fan of his either, but an autographed copy immediately boosts the trade-in cost by at least $10

I like RAS but his novels are a little too hyped up for my liking. Now if it was Weis & Hickman...that'd be different .

Did R.A Salvatore actually play the BG and IWD series or does he just know this stuff and if he did do you think his party could destroy every party in the world??

I'm not sure what you mean, but I do believe the games were based off the books, not the other way around.

edit: tried a less offensive approach

I actually had the distinct pleasure of corresponding with R.A. Salvatore back in the early 90's shortly after the Icewind Dale Trilogy was released. Believe it or not, Drizzt, Breunor, Cattie-Brie and Wulfgar were NOT based on actual characters or games he and his friends had played. Unlike Wickmann and Heiss, whose gaming group actually roleplayed the characters in the Dragonlance series, Salvatore created the characters for his novels from his own imagination. He and his buddies were avid gamers and did get together every Sunday to play a game of some kind..and it is reasonable to assume that their various AD&D adventures may have inspired some of the events in his various books....but none of them were based directly on specific games they had roleplayed.

Oh, and yes I DO still have a couple of the letters he wrote to me back then. He was very friendly and personable and even sent a couple of handwritten letters during the year or so that we corresponded. I eventually stopped reading his books (and stopped writing to him) as other events occurred in my life (such as wife and kids), but he will always be one of my favorite authors.
