After the first installment pillaged audiences' pocketbooks, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was a no-brainer. Not quite as obvious was the return of Johnny Depp, who, we've heard, will reprise his role as the prancing, foppish Capt. Jack Sparrow. Reminds us of some saying about a sparrow on deck being worth two in the bush...

Tom Cruise is going down in flames, and we mean that literally. Yep, everyone's favorite Scientologist will be playing the first U.S. pilot killed in World War II

Gladiator 2: Ridley Scott will likely direct this sequel to Russell Crowe's blockbuster swords-and-sandals hit. But Gladiator 2 won't see Crowe back in action; his character didn't survive the first film. The story picks up with the next generation of characters, focusing on the political side of Roman history.

Exorsist 4: This prequel to the 1973 classic horror flick The Exorcist will recount Father Merrin's early 20th-century journey to Africa, where, while doing missionary work as a young priest, he has his first encounter with Satan.

Batman 5: Director Christopher Nolan has taken over the series and has cast Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader. Nolan and David S. Goyer will co-write the fifth installment, which is said to be based on the script Batman: The Frightening, featuring The Scarecrow as the lead baddie. The movie initially was to be based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Batman: YO, a film-noir-infused, four-issue story written in 1987 and published by DC Comics that detailed Bruce Wayne's first year as Batman, including the self-doubts and blunders he had to overcome in order to emerge as a full-blown crime fighter.

Not one of those movies sounds remotely good.

I don't think that Pirates 2 will be that great but the new Batman sounds interesting.

The comic Batman: Year One was cool and clever. It gave the backstory for both Bruce Wayne AND - a nice touch - Lieutenant (later Commissioner) Gordon.

Christian Bale sounds like a curious choice, but he's the kind of actor who might just be able to do what Michael Keaton was able to do - seperate Batman and Bruce Wayne and play them as different characters. And that would be sooooo welcome after Kilmer and Clooney.
