Has anyone other than me had a chance to enjoy the Videssos Cycle series by Harry Turtledove? (Not *positive* on the name of the series...). It is a series of (I think) 6 books that revolves around a Roman scouting legion that is magically transported to another world where magic and light cavalry hold sway, along with intense politics, and infantry is unheard of as a force to be reckoned with. This legion turns up in an ancient empire which is slowly crumbling into ruin as it is besieged by enemies both within and without. They are hired as mercenaries by this empire and the saga gets interesting from there.

For anyone who really relished in depth detailing of large scale ancient battles, you'll love this series. The author seems to use the battle system from AD&D (can't remember the damn name of the kit used for large battles...came out in conjunction with the Bloodstone Pass modules).

Highly recommended!

Never heard of it Throntar.
Your Topic looked real lonely though.
Turtledove, huh? I'll be sure to keep my eyes open for it as the premise you described sounds pretty cool.

Thats a good series! Hmmm I thought there were only three, I'll have to look into that. Also he (Turtledove) has a series which starts with Into the Darkness which is good. Its on book two now, next one should be out fairly soon I would think.

LoA...you're right, there are 3 books in the Videssos cycle. However, there are two novels that take place prior to the Videssos cycle involving a chap named Krispos. My bad! Got the novels confused. Couldn't find the one you mentioned on Amazon.com. Sure you've got the title right???
