Okay, I read the post about bastard swords in some pit somewhere, so I am now curious as to what pit is being described there. As well (as I am currently in Niagara Falls visiting a friend), I would love to know what are the three best in each of these categories (if the ones I mention afterwards are not the three best):

daggers: Ancient Dagger Of Shadows, Drow Dark Dagger, Guinsoo (I don't happen to like (epic) Sting as I've no clue how to properly use it.
axes (one handed): -no clues there-
staves (for mages): some bone one I saw once...
staves (for everyone else): -no clues there either-
axes (two-handed): some +10 axe I found somewhere and bought
longswords: -okay, this one I am completely lost on, maybe the Mordenkainen's Blade?-
bastard swords: Deathbringer (taken off of bodies on Level 12)
scimitars: Desert Dustmaker, Bumbis' Scaleslice, and of course, [ Melt ]
falchions: Blade Of Dragon Assault (which I just happen to LOVE that name, pity you cannot get weaponmaster levels in it. oh, that would be SO beautiful...)
Wind Fire Wheel: -found one of those somewhere. love the look of it.-
maces (small): apparently one which can only be achieved through the Proving Grounds
maces (large): one which can be acquired from bodies on Level 11
mauls: -think there was one on Level 12 to be purchased, but I am not sure.-

and I think that would be all the major weapons I have interest in. I know there are the spears and the tridents, but I have never created a character for either of those. information on longbows, shortbows, and crossbows would also be good, though I believe (for now) the Drow Longbow and the Oh Damnit! regular crossbow would be the top levels for those two.

They 3 best staves are

The one from the Dragon High mage on level 12
The two you get from the Drow girl quest on level 13.

Longswords.
Mords Blade, the two drow swords you get from the proving grounds (one is a warrior reward the other you get from killing the drow champion)

Anything really good on maces? If so, I just came up with a truly fun character concept: percussion-playing Bard/Weaponmaster/something else cool here? who has a habit of using their opponents like kettle drums...

Not sure about the difference between Staves and Quatertaffs. Perhaps Staves cast spells while Quaterstaffs just hit hard.

The best Quaterstaffs I've found are available to buy on level 13 and as a (rare) random item from a crate on level 12.

Maces are my characters chosen weapon (until we see what the new Hakpak offers) and I'll say no more than, as usual, the best are on level 13.

My mistake.

T-D-C is quite right.

The staff we both have in mind is found on level 11 - not level 12. But it is a random item and it may be best not to rely on finding it there.

Actually the place I find it it is ALWAYS found in there.

It can be found in a random chest on Level 12. But this staff can be found near some of Pharuns items on Level 11.

Here is a related question: for sets of items, which sets are out there, and what do they contain? I know that Phaerun, The Shadow's Guild, Choc, and Valas all have sets, but I can never find everything for them. As well, do they have an actual "SUM > PARTS" effect?

oh, any word on warhammers (one-handed), mauls (two-handed) and battle axes (one- or two-handed)? thinking about making my barbarian specialize in warhammers and axes, but trying to find something even stronger than the two I have at the moment. (+8 enhancements on each of them)
