O.K. for real what Undermountain lacks is some true Death Traps.
I mean a truly Kill your PC no reserection rip your head off walls come crashing down on your PC and he is gone forever Death Traps. That is one of the main Dangers of Undermountain DEATH!
When I played The Ruins of Undermountain pen & paper verison there were many times I would have to create a new PC in the middle of the game after mine had been killed. I even remember finding the killing tree and opening a small door at its base then I entered and fell to my death down a deep shaft that was lined with spears sticking out of the walls of the shaft.

#2 unmarked or unlabeled Teleport Traps that send you down into Undermountains lower levels to a place where you have to use your wits to escape alive if you escape at all.
also these teleporters should be random. you know sometimes you end up on level 30 with pools of lava everywhere and other times you land in a bedroom in the yawning portal Inn.

#3 "The Dark Maze" a place with no light.
you get teleported into it and as you move the area you just moved threw is dimly lit then goes dark again as you move farther away, you must search in the dark for the one way out or be lost forever.

Hey Z,

I think I have given you a couple of these ideas but this a good place to get them all down.

Firstly I like the idea of death traps. Places where your charater is PERMANTLY dead/deleted. Maybe not have them on the really low levels but inbetween evel 1-4 you can have a number of insta death traps. I mean come on undermountain is meant to be a graveyard to Farauns hero's lets get busy and kill some of them off!

Would definatly give us a true representation of the old PnP Game.

There are also a number of scripts around that you can assign to an NPC to flag your character for deletion. So if you stuff up a character we can delete them ourselves without cluttering up the forums. Maybe a area in Waterdeep (a temple to Kelemevor (sp?) were we can send our selves to death)

Instead of Durnan selling and buying EVERYTHING how about we make use of the new Waterdeep area and some more use of Skullport (but see if we can reduce the lag in Skullport maybe less locals walking around??).

Still have Durnan sell and buy the ULTRA rare and expensive stuff however for the basics how about we set up a weapons shop, armour shop, potions shop, magic shop outside the Yawning portal. The prices here would be lower than Durnan because he only sells the good stuff.

Also to buy/sell the good stuff with Durnan you would need to be a certain character level (This way Durnan has a chance to get to know you). This will stop people from taking a character really high, getting a lot of gold and then giving it to new guys so they can equip themselves with high level items. It would give some more balance to the game.

I just think it would give the mod a more realistic atmosphere.

You could also make it so Durnan only buys equipment with a +3 or so enchantment. He only wants the good stuff to sell.

Another idea I had was that in Waterdeep, Skullport, or even lower we could have a smith who can upgrade our items kind of like in the actual game EXCEPT the prices for upgrades would be ALOT higher. This way once we have some really good equipment we can spend the money that we find on maybe adding an extra immunity on our weapons & armour. There are number of good Mods that have forges. You would need to put a cap on the type of upgrades to stop uber items.

I would also like to see a teleporter from Khelbans tower down to Waterdeep because MAN that is a hell of a long walk. It doesn't need to be in his tower. Maybe one of the teleporters in the teleporter maze ? What better way to keep intruders out than by teleporting them back outside the Yawning Portal?

I would also like to see some more hints to the different item sets. Maybe a couple of scattered notes could lead to new items or give you a list of what to look for.

Well these are some of my ideas.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers!

T-D-C

I'd just like to suggest that you make undermountain a little more rogue and archer friendly, as it is now they really have the hardest time since so many monsters have immunity sneak and/or a gazillion hitpoints.

Good thing about rogues is that they're the only ones that can disable some of those really mean traps. (I found one that the find traps spell didn't catch)

Well speaking as someone who has played on a few muds in my time. I can only say this in regards to death rooms.First they seem to cause a sudden deletion in the player base as people get upset with loseing there p.c. they have worked hard on. or secondly they just avoid the whole area all-together which means a lot of wasted hours of work putting it in.These of course are just a few things i have observed happen on other muds.

How about actual death scrips? Where you lose experience and gold when you die? That would certainly make the game more challenging as well

I'd say that's a no go since it's way too easy to die at low levels in undermountain.

Cool Dude

I didn't mean for these Total Death traps to be on levels 1-10. Sorry I was thinking more like an area having some kind of great treasure for your PC if your are smart enough to get through without dying, if you wanted to take the chance.
I see alot of posts of how easy it was for them to go from lvl 1 to 40 in a short time and it wasn't much of a challange for them to get to become a 40th level PC. well how about instead of Totaly dead from the world when you fail at the quest your 40th level PC is reduced to lvl 20, all magical equipment and all treasure is lost except 50,000 gold and your pc is sent to the Yawning Portal Inn standing in his or her underware.
"OR"
Should you pass the said quest or test your PC gets the umber charm of 100% immuneity(SP?) and the ability to transport to anywhere in the Undermountain when ever he/she wishes ay any time and their IW log-in name will be added to a character or hero somewhere in undermountain forever.

This would keep people coming back and trying the death quests over and over again just for the transport ability. (wear clean underware!!)

Then again for those that don't want to go threw the process of rebuilding their PC over and over again they don't have to try the death quests.
buck-buck-buck here chick chick chick chicken, LOL.

PS :
remember these are just Ideas not the end of the world so please don't freek out when people put Ideas on the Idea Post. The lord of the Undermountain "Z" will weed out the dumb Ideas from the good and instead of being afraid of other peoples Ideas think of some of your own or improve on the Ideas that others post like some have.
The main Idea is to help Ziroc and contribute to the creation of the worlds greatest MOD and attract more people to the adventure of the Undermountain.

True, but maybe it'll encourage people to play in parties and adopt a more conservative playing style. Besides, you can always be brought back from the dead by a Cleric. Or perhaps dying should just cause you to respawn at the beginning.
