I just spoke with Garrick in Beregost, and I took up his job. So the computer is supposed to automatically walk me to Silke, and it started to do that. However, my guy just kept on walking straight after he got to silk, and he walked straight off the map! His circle doesn't appear on the map, and I couldn't move him. Luckily, the cheat mode came in handy using the Hans cheat. Is this a known bug?

No, I hadn't saved it since enterig Beregost, and I had already mapped the place out and entered all the buildings to check everything out. Then I spoke with Garrick. Now, it's not like the stuff that I'd done before talking to him took much time, but I'm not in the mood to repeat it

Something....similar happened to me once, although it didn't involve a "forced-motion" thing like the Garrick dialogue. Quite a long time ago, my party and I were up at Wyrm's Crossing, talking to the Umberlee witch Tenya. We didn't like her attitude, so we proceed to lay into her. She cast Entangle, and my PC (who I think was a Paladin or something) failed her Save, but that hardly mattered since she was in melee range anyway. A couple of hits later, Tenya was dead, and I told my Entangled PC to walk over and pick up Tenya's loot. My PC was due east of Tenya's corpse, and so started to walk in place, heading west. Walk, walk, walk. Walk, walk, walk, not going anywhere. When the Entangle wore off, however, my PC magically jumped across the river!!! She vanished from the screen, and I had no idea where she went--I had to double-click on her portrait to find her. And BAM, there she was, on the other side of the River Chironthair, exactly due west of where she was Entangled. And to make matters weirder, this took place in Chapter 3, meaning that I actually got across the river before the Bridge was open! If I'd wanted to, I could have booted all the other members from the party, entered BG City, and thus had access to everything in town as early as Chapter 3 (or Chapter 1, even, if the bug is repeatable).....but not knowing what that might do to the plot, I decided to Reload.

I had the nearly exact same encounter happen to my CG fighter once, during my many exploits in the sword coast. I too was fighting Tenya, and had a fairly large, mid-high level party. We were in the midst of battle, and my pc was suddenly gone. At fist I thought he'd just run off and I didn't see him, but when I really got to looking, he was nowhere to be found. I double clicked on his portrait, and it moved me to a section of forest on the south edge of the map. The funny thing is, the fog of war was still there, and the screen centered roughly on a portion of forest that was inaccesible (You couldn't walk anywhere NEAR this place). So I selected my pc, and told him to move out towards the bridge. Nothing doing. So I tried to get him to attack Tenya (couldn't think of anything better to do from half a mile away with a longsword). The next thing I know, he moves, and I can see him for a second, kind of like he's displace on top of the trees, where he shouldn't even be allowed to walk, and then he disappears. So I double click on his portrait and lo and behold, he's behind Tenya's house, walking back to attack Tenya. Strange. I've never seen the likes of that since.

I must say that this is the first bug I've come across in BG1 that I can remember right now. But with that problem fixed, something else is bothering me. It seems unfair to be magic resistant to beneficial spells such as heal, draw upon holy might, and things like potions of heroism. My guy has 25% magic resistance, so if he's in the middle of battle, gets badly injured, and then tries to drink a potion of healing, there's a chance that he'll have MR to it! It's really annoying, and has nearly cost him his life a few times. In SoA, this was taken away so that beneficial spells aren't affected by MR. Too bad it's like this.

BTW Six, I didn't reload like you did because, although I'm not planning to make this a no reload game, I havn't reloaded once yet. It's likely that it won't be a no reload game, but I just want to see how far I can get like this going solo. Do you think that this bug could somehow affect my game? I mean, I don't want him to randomly walk off the map again, or even just have him randomly walking on his own...

I agree, and I believe that D&D 2nd Edition Rules agree as well. What's known for a fact is that so many other gamers agreed that BioWare changed the rules in BG2, so that Magic Resistance only blocks harmful spells(although there are a few rare exceptions). But there's no changing it in BG1; it's hard-coded into the engine, so no can do. Unless you play BGT, of course....
