I have a HUMAN fighter, 18/27 strength. He's wielding a long sword, but the game won't let him equip a shield. No matter what he wields, it says "two handed weapon equipped". WTF? :pissed1:

#1 Are you sure it's a longsword and not something 2 handed that looks like a longsword. (I doubt it but I felt like asking anyway.)

#2 do you have a 2 handed weapon in one of your other weapon slots?

I have a bow in my third slot. I'll have to try later tonight.

The bow is your problem. Unfortunately if there is ANY two-handed weapon in your quick slots you can't equip a shield. Stinks, don't it?

Yup, that was it. Put my bow away and shield works. Kinda defeats the purpose though, since I use bow so often.
Haven't played BG in over a year. I hate forgetting little things like this.

You can equip a shortbow in your quick weapon slots and still use the shield. It's only the longbow that causes the problem AFAIK.

Dace, as I've said, "ANY two handed weapons in the quick slots will do the trick".

i played through BG1 TOTSC 3 times and never used a shield once on my main character for that simple reason. i like to have the ability to use a long bow in case i have to use it from a distance to disrupt a spell when my other party members arent close enough.

I suppose you could always swap them round during combat, but thats just cheesy. I dont give my guy a bow, I just have say imoen or kivan etc. (basically whoever i've got thats good with a bow) do that job.
