This game is so much more harder then BG2 ever was, Insane BG2 = Core BG1 imo.

Such low hitpoints, it actually takes some tactics to kill things without dieing yourself. =(

Dare you to go to Insane difficulty. Even the rats in Candlekeep will give you problems.

it's because we have to build our PCs really from the scratch in BG1 == from level 1!
to me, the wolves outside of candlekeep are among the most fearsome monsters in the whole BG series...quicker than our level 1 PCs, and two hits can kill us (but just 65XP~~)

and BG also allows more 'freedom.' You don't have to follow the strict plot of BG2...you can visit more places and complete more sidequest in BG. And even though you have low HP, remember that your enemies have low HP too (compared to BG2).

I died like 8 times trying to kill a damn ogre..AN OGRE!

Then hobgoblins owned me a couple times..and it goes on. =(

But it should get better, I just recruited Minsc and am going to save Dynaheir..that makes my party as this..

Me (Fighter) (Large sword + Bow proficiencies)
Imoen
Jaheira
Khalid
Minsc
Dynaheir (when i get there)

I'll prolly kill Khalid somewhere and grab either Xan or Branwen/Yeslick when I get there..sound like a decent party for a *challange*. I dont really wanna fly through the game, but I dont wanna get my butt kicked either. =\

Hmm - Khalid is the only good aligned pure fighter NPC in the game. In other words: He can get more than 5 *'s in a weapon proficiency

I would drop Jaheira and take Branwen (or Yeslick) instead.

I'll have myself, a pure fighter, for tank #1, and Minsc for tank #2. Imoen is the theif (Are there any better ones, cause she really..sucks) Jaheira/Yeslick or Branwen for Clerical spells (healing, etc.)

So that gives me..

Me
Minsc
Dynaheir
Imoen (or a diff. thief..who is out there?)(Maybe Kivan for ranged attack?)
Jaheira
Branwen/Yeslick

..as a party

Sound decent? Kinda low on the mage power I think..dunno though :/

you'll be alright i reckon - mages aren't vital for BG1 although one is nice if you fancy "exploiting" the complete lack of any summoning limit and wand of monster summoning yourself up an army

ADD: ooh and i reckon imoen is the 'best' thief as you get her early so can make sure her thief points go where you need them

I agree. Pump her with the 'find traps' skill (ie. fill ALL skill points into the find traps skill) until she reaches app. 100%, then you can dual her to a (specialist) mage and still have enough time (read XP) for her to get her thieving part back before Durlag's tower and the final part of the game (where you'll be glad for the find and remove traps skill) and to be a skilled mage.
