Okay. I've beat this game once, using Tales of The Sword Coast. Now I'm playing the Dark Side mod. I may have missed my chance to do the Dark Side stuff because I think I killed the Cleric that has to join your party after flooding Cloakwood. Anyway, that's beside this point. I can't get the door in Durlag's Tower leading to level 3 to open no matter what I do. Have I just forgotten where the opening mechanism is? Is there a bug in DSotSC??? Any ideas?

Hmm - you take the 'elevator' down to lvl 3. Do you mean the door down to level 4?

Elevator...in Durlag's Tower? Cloakwood had an elevator. I don't remember one in Durlag.

It sounds like you are refering to the mechanized doors within the third level of 'Durlag's Basement'.

There is a room containing sparring dummies, hit them or click on them to open one of the four initial doors.

There is also a room to the west, where you find some old gargoyle statues and the like, hover your mouse pointer over them, it should turn into a circular shape and you will be able to open one or some of the doors.

I can't say for sure, but I beleive by doing various combinations of what I mentioned above, you should be able to get through those 'mech-doors'.

Also, there was a recent discussion regarding this and similar topics on the third level of "Durlag's Basement".

Note: ignore the advice that I gave within the below thread, I was confusing my own past situation within the 3rd level, with Jan's own separate situation.

But nonetheless, the below thread should answer any of your problems.
Hope this helps!

A major source of confusion within Durlag's Tower is the numbering of the floors--for the sake of this thread, let's use the following system:
Ground Floor (Entrance): Level 0
Floor where you talk to the Wounded Thief: Level -1
Floor with the Four Warders: -2
Floor with the Dusty Books and the "Doppelganger Carpet": -3
Floor with the Fireball Room: -4
Chess Game: -5
Floor with Ye Olde Talkin' Ghosts: -6

Now, tell us where you are and we'll give you oblique hints to nudge you in the right direction.

Of course, you other guess was correct as well: DSotSC does have some bugs.

TOWER?!?

You mean BASEMENT.

The upper levels of Durlag's Tower is basically a facade for what truly lies beneath, that is why I tend to call the place either, 'Durlag's Basement' or 'Durlag's Dungeon'.

Ooops!!

You are right Sir Heinrich Godfrie IV. 'Durlag's Basement' or 'Durlag's Dungeon' would have been a better choice.

The mechanism in the center of the room with the warders. It looks like some sort of elevator to me.

To the original poster: If you are stuck at the level with all the dusty books (lvl -3), then you might be doing the same mistake as I did:

I picked up the key stone from the statue that keeps throwing stinking clouds at you (could we call it 'the farting statue' for the sake of convenience ), but I thought that the locked door at the south east area of the map, should be opened up by activating the switches at 'the room with the many switches'. I therefor kept one of my party members in 'the room with the many switches' to switch the switches, while the rest of my party were standing in front of the door. The problem was that the NPC in 'the room with the many switches' was the one that got the key stone in his inventory .

It took some time before I stopped smacking my head into the table, after I realized what was wrong
