Okay I played BG1 and beat it, but now I want to play it again... What do you think is the best character to have? The first time I played I was a human mage, and in BG2 I play a elf mage/theif. So any suggestions?

HI. Mages are one of the most fun characters to play, once you learn how to use magic properly theres little to nothing they cant do. Especialy in BG2.

A plain fighter is easier to use, but less powerful and ultimately quite boring.

A bard would be good to try maybe. They get some magic, some combat, bit of a jack of all trades. And you can solo with them.

Welcome to Ironworks

I played a fighter/mage/thief all the way from BGI to ToB, and he whipped some serious butt. I suppose it boils down to your play style. I've got a couple of dozen partial saved games with different classes that I started, but never finished.
I was thinking about playing an evil thief and changing to Assasin in BGII (since you've played BGII through, you'll understand the need for a thief)
I haven't tried any gnome or halfling characters yet, hmphh...
Well the list goes on and on, try something if you don't like it, try something else.

Soloing sounds hard, but is it fun? I had a friend solo all the little quests and then get a party and play the main game... I was so envious!

I enjoyed replaying the game as a ranger, nothing better than wasting fields of low levels from across the screen with arrows. Plus it is one of the most difficult types to solo with.

Going solo must be virtually impossible. How do you deal with the groups of high level, well armed baddies that are out to kill you?

you draw them out one at a time if possible and use terrain to put you in 1 on 1 combat situations, plus you can continually use health potions and boost potions all the time. But i dont know if soloing durlags with some chars is possible, or most of the totsc quests are possible with solo chars cept warriors.

also obviously involved is a helluva lot of saving the game and resting.

Hi im new, so u can ignore me, but I believe that a Paladin is a really good class to me. I always choose a Paladin, even though I've never made it past the second chapter.(i just got the game) Anyway, try the paladin, he has his abilities, such as Lay on Hands, Detect Evil, and Protection from Evil.

Welcome to the boards Squall2583, even if you are new to the game you are most welcomed to offer your view.

If you are having any difficulties you will find a lot of people here willing to help.

Have Fun!!

Oh! I liked the Paladin as well found that it was a good character to start off with.
