After entering Shurugeon Castle and acquiring so many items I decided to go back to town and sell. Of course I had to get by Haleabus and after doing this a couple of times I decided to just kill him. Then I find out later in the castle that I was suppose to give the masque to him in order to open the locked door in the first room and set Desoto free. Well, he's dead! I have done everything I can think of even placing the evil items and masque but nothing I do will open the door or set Desoto free. What now?

WOW! I never heard of this before. How did you manage to kill him? He's supposedly indestructible until you give him the masque.

Do you have a game saved before you kill him? That's the only thing I can think of that would revert it back to where you are...other than "Reset Adventures" and starting all over again.

The only item you need from Shurugeon Castle is the Shroud of Elsera...Wyvern may be able to "hack" you one if she has the code, if all else fails. However, I'm not sure if not talking to D'Soto will cause problems later when trying to give the shroud to the dragon.

AFAIK, this is the first time this has happened, at least here on the board. Let us know if you can get it resolved! I really feel for you on this one.

I was able to kill Haleabus by running into the fountain room healing back up and then firing magic spells at him. Then go into the corner of the room until he was finished firing at me. Heal back up at the fountain, firing again and so on. I save the game so often that the save before killing Haleabus has been overwritten. Please tell me that I do not have to start over, I've been playing for over 75 hours.

You don't have to unlock anything to "free" D'Soto - you just have to kill Haleabus. He then appears (D'Soto that is) in the room where Haleabus was and will tell you, among other things, the word that you need to say to Erathsmador when you get to him in the Spire. You should be able to enter the room in which Halebus was and enter the room with the chests and get the shroud.

This does sound very odd though - it is rather easy to exit the castle without having to go by Haleabus and also he is supposed to be undamagable unless you use the masque on him.

I do the code for the Shroud of Elsera if you can't get it.

My apologies if this seems like a foolish question, but I'm a little confused, too.

Might this be the Sinister Sentry from the pool in the entry hall and not Haleabus?

Babs, to confirm - Haleabus is the bright red demon behind the locked door that's directly across the pool (north) from the castle entry room, and the Sinister Sentry is a ghost that rises from the pool's waters and fires off some potent spells at your party...

Rick, you're not the foolish one I am. You're right I do have the Sinister Sentry and Haleabus confused. But I still can't get the door to Haleabus's room(in the entry "pool" room) open. It says "something is needed". Is there a key or something to open it up? And if it is a key is it the master key, which by the way I no longer have for some reason.

There is a key (I can't remember wich one). However, curious experimentation on my part proved Haleabus to be immune to all damage (he'd probably take crush damage if I could stick him in a doorway or near a lift) before he recieves the mask (wich is supposed to banish him, not make him vulnerable .

Hi Babs,
The key you need is hanging on a hook in the kitchen. It is called the Master Key when you identify it!

Babs,

Some thoughts on the missing Master key:

Carefully check all of your characters' inventories for the key (including anybody back at the Inn)

Cast Spirit Eye in the castle and nearby area and look for the out-of-place white dot

If still no luck then let Wyvern help - she's great!

Babs - do let me know (by email) if you are unable to find the Master Key.

And Xignal - (blushes)
