I like {
the feel of the game, it feels authentic.
the way that you move across a world instead of going deeper in a dungeon.
the magic system, spells look good.
the number of weapons and skills available.
the storyline {most important}.
the voice overlay that speaks when u come across something important.
The game basically

All the above is perfect. Practically this game speaks for itself when it proclaims being "An RPG as Vast as Legend Itself" and I will stand by that. It's an amazing piece of artwork DW Bradley has done. The storyline alone keeps me hooked. I must say the characters are excellently written and fit into the game perfectly. I LOVE the music being MP3. Graphics DO NOT make a game to me; it's entirely the storyline that keeps me hooked. It makes Wizardry V, VI and VII look like child's play. This man deserves credit for all his hard work and you guys show it with such admiration. I DO HOPE to see a sequel OR an add-on at least. I'm sure DW Bradley is schemeing SOMETHING up. I still play text adventures for goodness sakes! I don't need pretty pictures to keep me playing!

His board on Hueristic is being attacked something fierce. I feel bad for him with all the people slamming him. They say the game doesn't work and blah, blah blah. IT'S WINDOWS PEOPLE. People just can't understand you MUST have CLEAR memory (85% free) and an even 300 on the swapfile. I wonder if these folks really do pay attention to these small things? I have no idea, but slamming a game that works for me WITHOUT direct x 7 and the patch I just can't understand it at all!

Keep up the high admiration and I'm SURE DW Bradley WILL release an add-on for his loyal followers. He's written a REAL CLASSIC here in my book! It's a winner all the way with me and I can play for HOURS without stopping! Just goes to show he KNOWS what he's doing!

Thanks guys - I'm NEW here and just wanted to say a few things about how I feel. Too bad his site is being attacked so much though. Such a shame people have nothing better to do than to go after him like that when all they have to do is read the small manual. Huh, go figure!!!

Thank you, thank you, Druadic, for saying what you did! If only you had been a reviewer *sigh* maybe the game would have gotten better press and enjoyed better sales. It does seem to have a cult following, though.

I hope you e-mail what you just wrote to Bradley at HPI. He needs to know how people feel about the game.

And, yes, I agree...the main problem is Windows, not the game. Unfortunately, no matter how good a game is, it has to cowtow to the OS. This is why the best (and most stable) games are written for pure DOS mode...but Microsuck is phasing out DOS (wonder why?)

There are, however, some design issues that must be addressed; the game isn't "perfect" (no game is), but there are still some annoyances that even us hard-core fans do want to see corrected in the sequel (if there is one). Main ones are in the quest sequences (NPC's prattling on too much) and in the levelling system. Other than that, most other issues have been predominantly cosmetic.

Anyway, welcome! We're glad you're here.

Sadly
True role playing games dont sell as well as hack and slash games, thats just a fact of life. Even Diablo had to have the emphasis on action instead of depth.
However those reviewers are idiots!
i bet none of them are fans of RPG (and you have to be to give a balanced review).
Reviewers are obsessed with beautiful graphics and movie cut-scenes and probably lost patience with a game whose graphics engine is (for 3d games) mediocre at best.
I have found that the games i got bored most quickly with, had the best graphics.

I sure wish I could meet others like you guys! I was sent to this wonderful posting area from another who shares my visions of this game. DW's site is being trashed by TONS of really over nutty people. Windows just plain STINKS! I met a man who lives here in Illinois. He lives in Wonder Lake and his son had me meet him one day and this story is a kicker!
Anyway, the gentleman was bedridden. He had a 50in monitor on a swivel arm and a system with Dos and Windows 95 on it. Needless to say this was only 8 years ago, but he showed me LINE FOR LINE how many errors Windows 95 had. I was awestruck as to the amount. He had made a patch disk to fix all the errors and there were over 15,000 lines of code that were corrupt in Win 95 alone. The REALLY made me rethink my situation about who to use at a later time with an OS. At that time there was Windows and Unix/Linux.
Linux WAS NOT popular at the release of Windows 95, but Dos WAS. Dos is STILL THE KING of normal OS'es! I can't find a single thing that Dos can't do that Windows can! Dos 5.0 and 6.22 was so perfect. If you all need to know, without Dos ALL THE WINDOWS PROGRAMS CAN NOT RUN!!! Hehe! It's TRUE! Windows NEEDS Dos to boot or it can't run. SURPRISE!
Anyway, I wish I was a reviewer; graphics DO NOT make a game. The reviewers of the magazines make me want to be sick - I can't understand what got into all of them. I immediately read what they had to say and just said to myself "well, what the hay I'm going to try it since the name DW Badley is on the cover. It has to be good!" So naturally I went onto Ebay and purchased the full game and installed it without a single hitch - I didn't even install direct x 7! It ran without it so perfectly. Of course I had to tweak my swapfile to be an even 300 on each area, but it was all worth it. Once I started the game it WAS TOUGH like all of them are. But, after a few hours of hackin' and slashin' my characters were royally running around creating havoc. The game is SO EASY to play and yes, the graphics are dated but I realized that it took this guy a LONG TIME and four long years of his life to write this. By that time 3D was just at it's infancy! I can say this; it makes Doom look like a pile of barf!
Anyway, my point is that this game is PERFECT in everyway no matter how you look at it. I can't find one single thing to say bad about it. The graphics do not bother me! The storyline is so deep that I've been playing almost 6 hours a day! Haha! I LOVE THIS GAME. It doesn't have extra crisp or flashy graphics and so what!!! I think this game DESERVES to be put into the hall of fame in PC Gamer. If they don't do it, I'll truly be disappointed.
One other note; I'm sure the people at these magazines haven't even tried to write games. They have no idea how good this game is. They look at it by graphics, crashes and installation. Heck, it's NOT that hard to run this and install it! I'm so disgusted with all the mags right now. The media have NO IDEA how hard it is to devote four years of your life to consider making a masterpiece like this. Hats off to DW for a piece of gaming history! We all love ya DW!!! Keep up the excellent work and PLEASE (I'm begging ya!) give us an add-on or even another release! I'll beg ya until my hands are raw! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!

Thanks guys for the nice words. I just can't fathom that people CAN'T read a simple manual. They all wonder why the USA is so reader illiterate! I just don't understand people much anymore. They can't check to see they have 85% of open memory, they can't figure out where the swapfile settings are located....I'm really bothered by people like that. They have no patience and just are downright lazy! I'm NOT going to be like that and I'll now go enjoy my Wizards and Warriors! HAIL TO ALL THOSE TRAVELLERS THAT PLAY! HOPE TO SEE YOU IN THE FORESTS IN THE GAME!!!

Sincerely;
Druadic

One last thing I forgot to say. I have not had ONE BUG in this game. NOTHING! I can't understand it. I haven't found one on my system! Maybe my system is perfect huh (yeah right). But anyway I've not had one mess up. Windblows REALLY MESSES up everything I have on this system. I'm truly considering Linux 7.1 since it can run Windows games. Haven't decided but I'm sure I'll go that route. Anyway, thanks for the welcome! I'm so happy to see a board that is so positive about this game. I just can't get enough of it! I have NO IDEA why - perhaps it's the name DW Bradley that made me remember that I own the Ultimate Wizardry Archives and saw his name on 5, 6 and 7. Who knows?

Anyway guys thanks for the warm welcome. I truly appreciate that!!!

You bet Druadic!
I've trying to entice more posters from the HPI forum to come here. There are way too many flames, and good people like you should not have to put up with that kind of garbage. I also feel bad that the forums set up by HPI have to read those kinds of posts. I hope Mr. Bradley will take note of his true fan base here at this forum.

Thanks guys! I'm truly happy to meet you all! I must say this game has ALOT going for it - it can even be added onto! I truly think that the map (full one shown on this site) has further potential! Can't just stop with the mainlands! You have to go on and I'm sure DW Bradley has seen how many followers he has.
Look at Thief. They didn't do well either, but with the fans constantly emailing them and posting on boards like this they made a sequel and the THIRD GAME IS TO COME thanks to Warren Spector snatching all the Looking Glass guys up. I can't wait to see that one either!

I HATE REAL TIME GAMING. I can't say that enough - I just can't stand it. But in this game it makes it look like something you WANT to play! The world is ALIVE and REAL. It just blows my mind that a game can be this detailed and it takes one man to do it! DW BRADLEY! What a guy he is! I wish I could write a game THIS BIG within four years!

Thanks again guys! I TRULY love this board and hope to be able to talk to all you more! I think this game will be better than Wizardry 8. I don't know why, but I have a very strange feeling about that. I still want to see that one too, but for the attempt DW Bradley gave us, I must say he has never written better than this! This is a true classic that will stay in my software vault FOREVER! I kneel before thy Lord DW Bradley for this AWESOME GAME!!!! Take care guys and I'll see you all soon! I post and write all the time so you'll see me!
