How the --- do I beat the skeletons in the thieves maze. Their arrows never miss, their swords never fail. On top of that I can't sneak onto them because of the traps.
Maybe I'm a whiner and complains everytime I get stuck, but I would still appreciate help... |

a tactic:
Have your thief hide in shadows - walk forward until you reach the place where the first trap is - turn on trap detection and remove the trap - repeat until (both?) traps have been removed. Have your mage walk forward until you are just out of sight of the skeletal warriors - summon monsters as close to them as possible. Then bring up the rest of your party and walk forward until you can see the first SW - attack with missile weapons and summoned creatures - repeat with SW #2. Hope this helps.

Another tactic that worked really well for me, was to set up my entire party with melee weapons, ***spoiler***
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -just around the corner of the dividing wall where the skeleton warriors. Then, take the character with the best armor class, equip him with the boots of avoidance, and the girdle of piercing (if you kept it) and if your mage has any spells that you can use to improve your fighters armor class or saving throws etc. then cast those on him. Then go around the corner and draw him back to you. He'll see you and fire and arrow, and you can run like hell. Wait outside of his visual range until he appears (he always seems to follow) and then run again. You'll be able to get him to follow you right around the corner into a waiting group of six melee equipped characters. Maybe have your mage cast haste on the fighters to get them swinging away. THey usually make short work of him, and their thaco and damage with the sword, isn't even close to those ice arrows that they rip you apart with. You should be able to take em' down systematically.

IIRC the traps you set off (unless disarmed) fire lightning bolts up and down the corridor. If so, have someone set them off deliberately, under the effects of a potion of absorption, and let the bolts bounce about. They'll be hit and you won't, seriously decreasing their HP already. After that, lure them out as ryaldin suggested.
That's if they fire lightning bolts, as it's been awhile since I've been down that way. Over then that, turn off the party AI, have everyone drink potions of invisibility, and march them past, not engaging them at all.

One of the most important things in this game are the thieves abilities...not necessarily picking pockets but stealth, detecting traps, and opening locks. Anyone who overlooks these skills is doomed to get worked by the game.

The maze is...
*SPOILER (-ISH)* (for those who don't want to know) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - right near the end of the game proper, but you'll have to pass through it to finish the game, so don't worry. You'll end up there eventually. ![]()

Can any of your fighters use maces, hammers or flails? Those tend to help when fighting skeletal undead, as edged weapons do less damage. (An old Pen and Paper Dungeons and Dragons trick.)
