Races, Why not Drow?

I've been thinking why can't they make more playable races
like Drow, Nord, full blooded orc, or just anything I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same way. I wouldlike to have have awesome orc strength
or a Nord speed, I just wonder why they didn't make more races...

actually full blooded orcs don't get any racial adjustments, except a loss of chr. 1/2 orcs get the very best from both sides of their heritage, making them formidible opponents (the only thing orcs really have going for them is that they breed like rabbits, and can and will mate with anything (except elves, for some reason they cannot produce children with elves))

as for why not more races, they allowed the ones that were allowed by the 2nd edition players handbook, ie no drow, orcs, goblins, xvarts, 1/2ogres. they are allowed in IWD 2 (or maybe it's just drow and duergar, I haven't got the game yet) but look how long it's been since BG came out, 4 years... i think it's a true testament to the creators that they've been continuously working on making the game better.

That's correct. Drows are not a "playable" character in the 2nd Edition of AD&D, which means it's not "playable" in Baldurs Gate. And remember that most people hate the drow, so running a drow would create many problems for you. The game tends (except for the reputation drop) to ignore the reactions people would have to seeing a drow in your party, when Viconia is present. IMHO

Get IWD 2 if you want playable races like Teifling and Drow etc....

~~Shadow~~ GateKeeper a normal elf to have 50% Magic Resistance and black skin. Choose an appropriate name and portrait. Close as you can get to a drow. I think they have more specials that that though. Look em up someplace.

If you have BG2 you can download (only 260Mb) the TDD addon which adds Drow as a playable race. In theory someone could do the same for Bg1, but I doubt it will happen.
