As the game progresses, the characters collect a lot of useless junk. Keys and such that only seem to be used in a single dungeon. Since you can't sell many of the items, how safe is it to drop them?

Pretty safe especially if you drop them just outside the West gate of Ishad N'ha. The bridge crank from Dragon Spire is about the only "key" that you might want to hold on to in case you need to go through there again!
