Bearing in mind that I'm currently unemployed and broke (but have a LOT of time for gaming!) is this one worth getting?

I loved IWD/Heart of Winter, one of my all time favourite PCRPGs. How similar is this one?

I have not finished playing it yet, due to too much real life and also a new interest in NWN, but I can assure you that my own personal feelings finds this game better than the first IWD, + both expansions. If you have alot of time on your hands...and it appears you do... , go get it.

Apprently its not as good in the end stages, but from what Ive experienced IWD2 is definately worth getting. I would recommend BG2 and PS:T over it, but if youve done those IWD2 is well worth it. Especialy if you liked IWD1.

There is a lot to recommend in IWD2, especially the 3rd edition rule set. It adds a surprising amount of depth to the characters and several of the scripts / dialogues were designed with just that in mind.

There ARE some down sides to the game. The ending is a little anti-climactic - it's plausible, and well thought out, BUT it leaves one feeling a little cheated. Also, there are three sequences in the game that will probably try your patience .... although they are nicely designed, after the first few levels you are going to be asking yourself "Is this EVER going to end?" For those of you reading this who have the game, those areas are the maze, squares and monks challenges - that shuoldn't be enough information to spoil anything for you Epona, but enough so others can add there own two cents on those areas and still be cryptic about it if necessary.

Despite those negatives, this is a good game. So, if you liked IWD/HOW/TOLM - this is definite buy. You won't be dissapointed.

Yes, Micah is 100% right, those area's can be pretty frustrating, but nonetheless, the game is definatly worth it if you liked part 1 as well. It's also fun to meet characters from IWD1 in the sequel, so it adds more ingame depth if you have also played part one
